Default I have returned

I was on this forum 7-8 years ago, but it looks a lot different now. I can say that Atkins provided me the only real dieting sucess in my life and I tried everything. Now with some determination and some romantic incentive, I am back on the wagon. Here is some history, January, 2000 I weighed 320 lbs. Thanks to the good doctor A, I dropped to 225 lbs by October, 2000. Naturally, I was estatic. I looked so good, I had to beat the women off with a stick.

The weight stayed off for three years and then gradually came back by 2004, I was up to 260 and more creeped on as the months went by. I would try Atkins, loosing a small amount, then fall off the wagon and gain back even more. Most times, I know i was in ketosis cause the strips turned purple.

Each of many times, I went through the initial headache and dizzyness then started to feel good and loose. Then something would happen to cause me to cheat and boom first thing I was piling on the bread, etc. I also tried South Beach, but following that plan just didn't give me enough to eat.

Of interest was how I remember my first experience. It was so easy, I laughed every time I got on the scale or pulled my belt in tighter. I also couldn't believe the amount of food I was eating and still loosing. Believe me, I like to eat!

So here I am at the feeding trough again, so to speak and wonder if my perceptions of the first experience hold true.

Some details. Age 62, height 6ft, current weight 310. I am not the most active person in the world either but neither was I in 2000. I am however 7 yrs older.

I am in my second week of inducton but may stay longer because I've had to take some prescription codiene cough syrup nightly so I can get some sleep, lest I cough my stomach muscles to bursting. There are also an occaional Halls mentholyptus which are full of sugar too.

How I remember the diet: To paraphrase Don Akroyd from a SNL skit I could consume great quanities of protien as I wanted and any dark green vegetable. Eggs, cheese and any kind of fat is permitted to with the concept that i can stuff myself with them. Other foods are permitted like nuts in limited quanities but not till past induction.

when I say "as much as I want", to me that means breakfast consisting of 4-5 strips of bacon, 3 greasy fried eggs and as much water as i want to wash it down. other breakfasts would substitute sausage, ham or even peperoni for the bacon. I might even add some cheese and make a meat/cheese omlet. No one could ever think I wasn't full after breakfast.

Lunch is usually a decent sized salad. Mostly with "American' lettus, I don't like those weed type greens. The salad might have some small tomatoes grated cheese, bacos and lots of full fat dressing. I liked blue cheese.

Dinner would const of some hunk of mean. It could be beef, pork, chicken or even fish. Hunk generally described what most people consider 2-3 helpings. with this, I'd have another salad which with dinner, i liked oil/vinegar sprinked with pamisan cheese. Another vegetable might be green beans, cooked spinach, or other dark green veg.

snacks in between meals consisted of a chuck of cheese, or a few pieces of peperoni. If there was a left over chicken in the fridge, i'd pick at it.

all of this was accompanied by as much water as i could stand. I took vitamens daily and a fiber pill so that i didn' have a repeat of a "little" problem back in 2000.

So without posting how may grams of this or that, can anybody tell me if I am on the right track or are my perceptions way off?

Hi fatmanjay! Welcome back to this great way of eating for a lifetime! Did you read the book way back then? I don't know if things have changed since you were on plan, but you can check out the induction forum and all the stickies. Your menu looks pretty good to me from what I see.

You can log your foods eaten into www.fitday.com , it's a great site for keeping track of it all.

In the meantime, come around the board often so we can watch you shrink!

Thanks, yes, I read the book way back then. Still have it somewhere. I was specifically wondering about the concept of eating great quantities. I am hopefull I can repeat the weight loss in 2000. I'm just not sure I want to "shrink" because of another connotation of that word.

Well, you can eat great quantities as long as you don't eat the carbs, except for the carbs at whatever food rung you happen to be on! Are you familiar with the food rungs, adding certain foods back into your diet as you progress? Just keep in mind that if you eat more calories than your burning each day, that's still going to cause weight gain not loss. You should re-read the book, just to get you refamilarized!

Welcome back fatmanjay. Glad you returned to the fold!

The thing about eating great quantities is that it's fine as long as you're feeding your hunger only. If you gorge just for the sake of gorging, repeatedly, you'll gain weight. If you're hungry though...eat!

Happy losing!
