Default Hi! I'm addicted to carbs again.. :(

I'm not new.. I just became a carb addict again and now, I'm frustrated. I need a few shoulders to cry on and then, I ask that you kindly to kick me in the butt as hard as you all can

I went off the Atkins WOE about 6 months ago and now, I'm paying the price. I just checked my blood sugar and it's 419. I'm so freaked out right now and slightly ashamed. I'm going to admit some things here that I'm not proud of, so, here it goes-

I started this diet in an effort to lose weight, just like everyone else on this board, however, I think I did it for the wrong reason. I started it because my ex had been hounding me about my weight. So, in an effort to prove to *him* that I was capable of meeting his expectations, I cut a lot of carbs out of my diet. Well, a month later, he broke up with me. I kept going on my diet and went from a size 32W to 26W in about 3 months, losing about 45-50 pounds.

Before I knew it, I had a new love interest knocking on my cubicle wall. Literally.
A guy I have worked with for the past 2 years began training in my department. To make a long story short, I got comfortable with him and started shoveling in the carbs and packing on the pounds again. We now live together and I'm responsible for groceries, so there is NO REASON why I'm doing this to myself. He drinks Mt Dew, full sugar, but drinks are not my weakness. I can live on Splenda sweetened tea, water, and coffee the rest of my life and not look twice at sugary soda. My weakness (addiction) is bread, rice, BBQ Sauce and pasta (although, i do use Dreamfields).

I keep telling him I'm so disappointed in myself and I start each day with just eggs and meat in an attempt to start new, but I end up either getting super carb cravings or I'm lazy and purchase a sandwich at work. I'm pouring my heart out here and I feel kinda akward.

So, here I am, determined to start Atkins again, for the right reasons. My Health, My Life, and My Overall Well Being.

I am only 29 years old.. I want to live a long, healthy life. So far, I'm not doing a very good job. Why would I turn my back THE only WOE that works for my body type?

Welcome back to Atkins Aquaryus. Really happy you decided to take control of your life and your eating once again with Atkins. You know it works well for you, so you just need to get into the right mindset. With our help here, I'm sure you'll be able to do that just fine.

So many of us know all about those rice, past, bread, sweets cravings! Hang in there and after a short time they'll diminish. Make sure you always have high fat snacks with you, for emergencies. It pays to always be prepared.

Are you planning any exercise?

Happy losing!

Hi Aquaryus! I feel your pain! I too have been on and off the diet a few times. Atkins is the only diet that works for me. Right now you're locked in a viscious cycle of carb eating. What I believe would help you is to get super motivated, start reading the book, starting thinking and perhaps listing all the reasons why you want to lose this weight. Pick a couple days off that you can start the diet, i always chose the weekend, so i didn't have to worry about work! Clean up your house as much as you can and stock up on everything that you like to eat of induction friendly foods. Research new recipes that you can have on induction. http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/index.html
that is a great link to get you started. Good luck to you!

Aquaryus, First I want to say that I'm SO proud of you for decided to do this for YOU this time! Thats the first step. Also, I think it's a really good idea for you to take baby steps- make small goals for yourself- 10 pound goals maybe? And each time you hit a goal, treat yourself with something (not food). Maybe a massage, a manicure, or something like that.

I'm sure you know this, but once you get thru a few days of induction, the cravings for carbs will subside. I've only been on since Monday and already I'm not nearly as hungry as I used to be and I really don't miss the carbs.

I know it seems like your journey will be a long one and if you're like me, you're feeling down and like you just want to give up- you're tired of HOPING some diet will work or looking for the magic pill. I FEEL THAT TOO! We all have! But you WILL make this work, because this time you're doing it for you! Anytime you want to eat carbs, get on this forum and start reading, writing and staying encouraged. Here are some things that I keep in the back of my mind:

When I want something that I shouldn't be eating I read this sign I have posted on my monitor that reads "WILL IT KILL YOU IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT??"

The idea of fitting into a smaller size tastes SO MUCH BETTER than pasta!!!

Nothing tastes as good as THIN FEELS!! (i know we're all heard that one, but it's so true!

Keep it up girl!

You did great your first time around with Atkins--you can stick with it this time! Definitely stock your pantry and fridge (as well as any other places you *might* get hungry!). My best, best advice for anyone starting out on induction is EAT!!! Don't let yourself get ravenous--that's when the carb demons can get you You''l be through induction and crave-free in no time.

Welcome! Post often--there are so many people here who understand and want to encourage! I am just amazed by the members of ADBB every day.

HI... I know how it feels.. It took me months to get that first day under my belt.

What did it for me was a simple thing. I decided I needed a plan. So I planned my first day.. I shopped the day before and got rid of stuff in the house that would tempt me.. Like popcorn, pasta and ice cream... Lord I love ice Cream.. (did I mention I own 2 Baskin Robbins?) I planned my breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner and snack.. I wrote it down ahead of time... I promised myself I could be strong for just one day.. When i was over I was so happy that I planned the second day.. Now it's sort of natural.. But then I'm only two weeks in...

So best of luck to you and don't let being ashamed of yourself dictate your life the only shame in being overweight is staying that way.

Hi Aquaryrus, welcome to the board. As you can see from some other posts, you are not alone! It definitely helps to come around the board often. There's so much info here and great friends to be had. The board becomes part of the Atkins way of life! Best of luck to you.

Aquaryus welcome to ADBB! Never mind what happened in the past or even what's going on now. Picture yourself at goal and work your pretty behind really hard to get there.

Keep in mind that this isn't a diet but a WOL. So as long as you can buy that and accept it once and for all, you will accomplish that and more.

God has blessed me and everyone here with this enormous support system. So please, please don't get discouraged, accept the challenge and get ready for a new life. We are all here to support you.

Thank you all for your support! Sombersusie, I added that link to my favs; thank you!! Anyway, less than 24 hours after my post, I am happy to say that my blood sugar is starting to stabilize. I drank a lot of water today which is nothing out of the ordinary. I had some Snapple Diet Tea, yes, I know it has aspartame.. baby steps, ok? LOL! I had a really good salad for lunch.. The irony is that I was visiting my best friend in the hospital because she just got gastric bypass and I didn't bring any snacks. I remembered they had a bangin' salad bar and made myself a nice carb conscious salad for $4.40, plus a bottled water. When I got home, about 2 1/2 hours after I ate, my blood sugar tested 142. I have a very subtle case of 'the shakes' which, from past experience, I know is my body wondering where the carbs are at.. throw in a slight headache.. Woo Hoo! I'm doing it this time!!
