Default Here's my story

My name is Aimee. I'm 35 and started out at 188(july30,2007). I had always been really skinny. I tried everything to gain weight but nothing seemed to work, until at age 22 i hurt my back. I went into a depression and was in pain. I went from 118-150 highest being 190. I have had highblood pressure for about 5-6 years and also have PCOS. The last few years at work were high stress, which added more weight(i'm a stress eater). I changed position last year and feel happier. I'm currently 182 (lost 6 lbs , so far)and My goal is 150. I'm unfertile due to PCOS. I'd like to lose some weight so i can get pregnant. Sounds silly i know but low carb makes me fertile. Plus I want to be healthy and lower my BP since it make a high risk pregnancy. I love my new job and I'm ready to live my life. If God willing i get pregnant I want to continue to eat healthy. I'm so tired of feeling so sick, tired and achy whenever I weigh more than 180.

I'm 5'6 and have an apple shape. Any tips and motivation would be appreciated.TIA!

ps anyone know any good lower leg (below the calve )exercises?

Hi Aimee, Welcome To ADBB!

doesnt sound silly at all, low carbing seems to make lots of people more fertile!!

Its good that you are ready to change things for yourself so you can start feeling better about you, just come back often and post, the motivation and inspiration available on this board is amazing! you hafta use it!

Lunges are good for lower leg exercise also just standing on a step with your heels hanging off and going up and down on your tiptoes is a good one!

HTH - hope to see you around the boards!

Hi Aimee,

Welcome to ADBB This is a great place for support and motivation.

Emma is right - lots of people seem to have increased fertility with this WOE. There is a PCOS forum on this board which you might want to look at.

All the best

Welcome to ADBB Aimee! Glad to have you with us. Sounds like you're pretty committed which is great. The right mindset is half the battle.

My tips would be: Read the book, if you haven't already (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition); Follow the plan to the letter; Plan ahead (like, always have a high fat snack to hand in case you're in a tricky situation).

Post lots and ask any questions you might have. We're with you!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

Emma Thanks for the exercise tip. My legs are thin and ok i just hate the part below my calves and above my ankles(too skinny)-lol!

One problem i'm having is keeping up with my water. I've never been a water drinker. I'm on vacation until Wed and i need to pick up that routine quick! I'm 182 now. Jow much water should i be drinking a day and any tips on making it a habbit?

Here's my tip on water- this totally works for me- I buy a liter of water and put in a few slices of one of the following (I change it up): Strawberries, oranges, lemons, cucumbers or really any fruit you like. It gives the water flavor and makes it taste better than just plain water- it's easier to get it down. Also, I chug it early in the day to kinda "get it over with"...good luck to ya!

Hi Aimee, welcome! 6 pounds so far is termendous! Have you seen the PCOS forum? There are many others who understand what you might be going through.

Eating this way will change your eating habits for life. This is no quick fix, it will train you to make wiser food choices and is a healthy way of eating.

Hi Aimee,
I met you on the P.C.O.S. page. Just found and read your introduction here. I know what you are going through with the BP problems, apple shape and trouble conceiving. Prior to Atkins, I kept walking around hungry, eating less than I wanted and still gaining more and more weight every year. My best friend told me (b/c she is my best friend and will always tell me the truth) that my face looks like it's blowing up and that I look like a skinny person in a disguise. I know this is true---------like you, I used to be thin. Since the beg. of summer, I put on 10 more pounds and up another size. That was my rock bottom. It just seemed so unfair that I ate good nutritious food, worked out and kept gaining. The only explanation can be insulin resistance!!! I have a very good feeling that you and I are both going to trim down with low carbing!! It just makes such good sense. Don't give up! I'm with you!

Carrie

Drinking the water... sigh....

That's a hard one for me... But as was mentioned earlier.. try to drink it early in the morning. I keep a bottle by my bed. When I get up in the morning I try to start drinking it. I drink while making the bed, showering, dressing... I try to finish that bottle before I leave the bed room. Then I take one from the fridge and sip as I cook breakfast. I drink with the meal.... I keep it with me all day... I'm finding that I'm actually drinking about 12 glasses per day...

I've found that I don't drop any weight on the days I don't drink my water....So find a way... set that alarm clock.. send yourself e-mails.... put a note on the top of the potty.. ANYTHING... just suck down that water!
