| Warm welcome Lori and felicitations on your pregnancy!! Cat is right... there are several pregnant ladies doing Atkins and a forum where they hang out. You'll be fine if you eat maintenance style until the baby is born... oh, and then as long as you breast feed.

| Yes. I've had two babies - 1st one I had gestational diabetes. 2nd one I was Type 2 diabetic. 1st one I did as I was told and ate no sugar, but 12 servings of grains + meat & veg, etc. I ended up on 100+ units of insulin. W/ my son I ate MY way. No sugar, no starch, grains, fruit, etc. By changing my portion sizes when my blood sugar #'s got higher, I was able to bring them down and only had to take insulin a handful of times. At least for me the 2002 guidelines for Induction is perfect while pregnant. It's enough food, enough vegetables - and that 'net' thing pushes me to search out the higher-fiber veg which helps as well w/ that pregnancy constipation that often happens. You can also add some flax in. Most people will recommend moving to a higher level of Atkins, but because I'm diabetic, if I was pregnant as well, I'd have to do the Induction level. Just me. You might want to talk to your doctor. Unless you are very overweight, losing weight while pregnant isn't always recommended. I was told w/ my 2nd that I could lose up to 20% safely, but I was 315 when I got pregnant. Even maintaining your weight while pregnant will be great because that means you are getting smaller while baby gets bigger. You'll see the weight disappear after baby is born. I went into delivery weighing 305. I dropped down to 270 by just a few weeks after. Good luck and congratulations!! Do what you feel comfortable doing. Ketosis is safe in my opinion, as long as your blood sugars are normal. EDIT *This Spotlight-Introduce Yourself thread has been closed due to extended absence of owner.
