Talking Another Newbie

Hi, my name is Danita. My husband is in the navy and we have 3 children. I am 26 and a stay at home mom!
I'm not what you would call "overweight" but I am unhappy with the way I look. I have tried so many diets, but was so scared to try Adkins. I have seen my parents go off and on it for many years now. Well i finally decided to start and that was over 2 weeks ago. I've gone from 135 to 128 already. i hadnt been under 130 in a long time! This is the 1st time i saw such great results right way. i was also working out almost every day even though this week I have been horrible about that due to certain circumstances. however i am gonna get back in the game and I wanted to come on here and get as much support as I can. I'm kinda stuck at the 128 range and having a hard time staying under my carb count since getting off induction. This seems like a really great supportive place!! I want to be comfortable in my skin when my husband returns home from Iraq in 9 weeks!

Hi Danita! I know it stinks when your stuck in one place for a while, but it happens to all of us. Maybe planning your meals ahead will help you stay with the carb level you're at?

Hi Danita! Wow, you're doing really great so far. I'm glad to hear that! It doesn't matter how much you need to lose, we're all in this together around here.

Why is it difficult for you to stay in your carb range after induction? Are you following OWL properly? There is a method to this way of eating so I just want to be sure you understand the food rungs/ladder. Here's a few links for you:

http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=5516 (The OWL Carbohydrate Ladder)

http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=5517 (The Rules of OWL)

Also, since you don't have too much to lose, sometimes after the initial drop in weight it slows down somewhat naturally as you get closer to your goal weight!

I guess since i went off the induction I want to add more then i can LOL I dont write down what i eat so i was just going off my head and if I eat something with very little carbs I would eat more then i should, not measuring it out.

Well, I'm glad to be of help.

Here's another awesome site to log your foods and things: www.fitday.com
Personally I am addicted to it and when in losing mode I use it every single day. it will tell you how many carbs, calorires and fat etc you're eating. You should strive for 30% protein, 65% fat 5% carb in the induction phase. Those are guildlines, you don't have to be exactly right-on every day. As you move up OWL, the fat % will decrease and the carbs will slightly increase as you add foods back into your diet. The protein remains at 30%. Here's another link that explains what I mean:
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=11313 (OWL fat/protein/carb percentages)

I love that you're wanting to do this correctly!

Thanks so much! i got a fitday account last night. looks like I am eating too much protein?? How does protein stay the same and fat go down? What percentage should carbs be in OWL RUNG 1?

The protein stays the same because you will be eating the same amount of protein! The fat automatically goes down when it's being replaced by additional carbs, like Rung 1 is more veggie carbs.

You'll see, when you start using fitday, that you'll begin to tweak what you eat on any given day to try to come close to each percentage. I prefer to filll in my fitday as I eat, or I do it first thing in the morning if I know what's going to be for dinner. That way, I can play with the rest of my food all day. Some days more protein is needed by the afternoon, so I have a protein snack. Some days, it needs to be less so I eat less protein and more of another rung.

It's a learning experience for sure.

by the way, do you own the book? I would urge you to pick one up, we use the 2002 version around here. Also, you can go read the Book Reading Challenge thread too as we've been having some discussions about what the book means! We only started the challenge this week, come check it out. You are too late to earn the challenge award, but it would be a good way to ask questions and meet some new people too!
