| I went through this the first time I did Atkins in 1998. What's so ironic is the main person who was so dead-set against me doing it later lost over 75 lbs. doing low carb and don't think I didn't remind her of her harrassment the whole time I was doing it (no I didn't return the harrassment). What you've got to realize is this is YOUR health. Do you feel better (more energy, etc.)? Base what you do on how you feel about yourself and your health, not what others think. I've been going through it too with coworkers. I've even had to just be downright rude for them to realize this is not a gimmick...this is my way of life and for those who don't like or appreciate it I tell them (in my 6-year-old daughter's words) "Mind your own Rona" (in other words mind-your-own business). I know that sounds harsh but sometimes you have to be harsh for people to realize you mean business (especially when it's your health involved). Besides, I don't see any of these people lining up to buy my groceries, so why is what I eat any of their business. Another thought? Some of your family and friends might be truly afraid you're hurting yourself (some people are afraid of the unknown). For those skeptics have them read a copy of DANDR and if they're still skeptical tell them to at least wait until you reach your goal to judge what's going on. I'm sure your newfound health and attitude will change their view of this way of eating. Best of luck and health to you. Hey stop by our thread sometime (see Kentucky Derby below). You can do this!! We're all rooting for you!!

| Daione, good for you for starting this WOE. Your friends may not be supportive now, but just wait until they see what you accomplish! This board is amazing. You'll find so much support and help here. And great recipes! About working out 2 hours a day: That's wonderful, but make sure you don't overdo it. You should set aside one or two rest days a week at least, especially if you're weight training. Give yourself time to recover or you'll wear yourself out. Good luck and post often!

| Hi! The first time I did Atkins, I didn't have this board for support and so got discouraged after the first 15lbs... or so...and the wt loss slowed and suddenly everyone was a critic too with their own ideas for my life. Went on a different diet that didn't work! This time around, I've done it right by following the book and getting fresh insight and ideas, recipes, support and motivation here on ADBB! Hang in there and don't get discouraged if it's slow. This is for life! And it's so worth it! liz |

| Hi. Welcome. The great thing here at ADBB is that you can make friends that support and encourage you to get healthy and fit. We're all in the same boat and know that its much easier to stay on track when you have people who send you positive energy to make it happen. Although this was the first time I did Atkins, I did have a lot of people tell me negative comments about it. (still do). But, I've come to realize that nobody stopped me from overeating and eating the wrong things when I was fat, so they can't have control over trying to keep me from losing the weight. So glad you've joined us, get active here, make friends and utilize the great resources available to help you enjoy making changes that will improve your life. Best wishes.

| Warm welcome to you Daione! Nice to have you with us. Don't listen to the naysayers. At the end of the day (when you get to maintenance) you'll have really only taken out sugar, refined white flour and highly processed foods. You'll have added in tons of veggies. Nothing very unhealthy about that, imho! People confuse Atkins with the two weeks of induction... there's much more to this way of eating than that. Happy losing!
