Default Newbie

Hi,
I started on November 28th. I am ready. I had a hysterectomy several years ago, don't take HRT, and put on over 25 pounds. Went on antidepressants and put on 25 pounds. I have smoked for 32 years and quit for a month and put on 18 or so more pounds. I was getting ready to quit again and the scales hit 200 pounds. I am 5'1". I am a rolly poly. LOL Another sad thing is that I was overweight to start with.

I have arthitis in my back and it hurts to move a lot but I am doing as much as I can. I think once I get 20 or so pounds off my back won't hurt so much and I will be able to exercise more. I am tired of being tired and fat.

I can't believe I admitted how much I weighed. I have never admitted it to a living soul.

I have lost 5 pounds since the 28th, haven't cheated, haven't wanted to even. It's hard to eat because I am no longer hungry. I was a chocolate addict but now, I don't even think of it. I am already feeling healthier. My DH is 6' and weighs 165 so he is slim but I am cooking low carb and he is also feeling better. He still eats sandwiches and cereal but he is not getting pasta, potatoes, etc from me. LOL

I want to quit smoking again on the 1/1/08 but I have to get some weight off so I can even feel like I am worth it. I know someone must feel the same way, that I am not worth being slim or smokefree or happy.

It doesn't matter to me if it takes a year to lose 75 pounds, I will plug away and do both at the same time. Atkins is so easy.

I hope that I will be able to offer encouragement to the rest of you. Thank you for being here

Hugs,
4me4once

Hi there 4me4once,

Congratulations on starting Atkins and losing 5 pounds already. I started induction December 1 and am going to lose the exact same number of pounds that you are.

WE CAN DO IT!!

Just the fact that you have started induction and posted here shows that you believe you ARE worth the effort it will take to change some of the things in your life that are pulling you down Losing this weight will take a tremendous burden off of both my body and my spirit. I am worth it!!

You know, your situation is very similar to mine. I have a "normal" weight husband but I do make him some side dishes to have along with what I make for me. It has been easy for me to pass them up because I honestly feel totally satisfied with what is legal on induction which is how I know this is the right way of eating for me.

I am also a "light" smoker and I too plan to quit once I get rolling on this new way of eating. I lost my mom in 2000 to lung cancer, she was only 65, and I really get down on myself about smoking after seeing first hand the terrible effects.

I called my best friend of 30 years last Sunday and actually told her my starting weight of 220 pounds . She was stunned but very glad I had made the committment to Atkins since she knows how bad my weight makes me feel. I have not told my husband or anyone else, except those here on the board.

If you are not doing so, you should use a site like fitday to keep track of your daily intake. It is so when the percentages come out just like they should.

Just take it one day at a time and be proud of yourself for having the courage to make the changes you are already having success with.

Big ole Texas hug!!

Pam

I am right there with you going into this I am 215 and at 5'0 tall that is just not the weight I want to be at. The hardest part, I believe, is taking the first initial step to doing it. Not giving up after a day to have some ice cream. Congratulations you made it past that and am now on your way.

Welcome to the Atkins family! No need to feel embarrassed about admitting how much you weigh! Plenty of us have admitted to much worse. We're all in this together. I started out at 296 pounds and have even posted pictures! We are all doing this one day and one pound at a time--together!

Sunny!

Thanks ladies! I know I can lose this, especially with this diet. It's pretty easy to stick to but I would like something sweet, not sugary, just sweet.

I am inventing recipes and can't wait to get through induction to try them. One is a carb controlled cheese cake. I think it will be yummy!! If it works well, I will share the recipe in the appropriate thread

Welcome to ADBB! In addition to weighing in I would suggest taking your measurements. Inches lost are exciting to track! Also lose the mindset of this being a diet...it is a new way of eating/way of living. WOE/WOL.

Post often, start a journal, join some of the challenges, keep your DANDR book handy to refer to often. You'll find great support here along with encouragement, knowledge & a sense of belonging!
