Default Struggling

Hi all.

This is my second introduction post, the first being last Novemeber. My fiance and I were on Induction for a week and a half, but went off it over the holidays.

Well, the time has come to pick it back up. Over this last weekend, we did a kitchen cleanse and an Induction-friendly grocery shop, I read the book again, we set out a plan for exercise and established reasonable weight loss goals. We began on Monday and it was fantastic, We were eating well and drinking a load of water and I was out working in the yard and then...

...I broke my foot. Now, the reason we went off Induction the first time was because of a couple of seriously stressful life events, and I'll be ****** if I'm going to let that happen again. We need to lose this weight. My fiance has a bum ticker and I've been carrying around stress weight for four years. Enough already. But this is really hard.

I'm the one who cooks, and right now I can't. So we're eating basic stuff he can cook, which I appreciate beyond words, but one of my hurdles with Induction is the limitations in creativity and I find I lose interest in food altogether. I'm also discouraged from drinking as much water as I need to because getting up to go to the bathroom is such an ordeal.

But more than anything, I'm craving comfort food. When we're not on Induction, our normal diet is actually low carb with no refined sugar or flour anyhow and has been for a year now, so it's not like I just went off the mac & cheese. But this is the first time I've been injured since I went low carb and I want the mac & cheese, oh how I want it.

I'm not really sure how I'm going to do this. It's killing me to be laid up, since my usual coping style would be to go find something to do to take my mind off things. I guess I should just count my blessings that not being able to get up and move around also means not being able to make it to the store for a box of chocolate frosted Pop-Tarts.

Any words of encouragement or similar stories would mean the world to me right now. Thanks for listening.

Sorry to hear that you got injured Hope you'll get well soon. But just don't let it go. I believe your fiance can prepare a good salad, or cook eggs... It's ok that you didn't stick to it for a day or two, but don't let it go (!) (and I really mean it, I've been thru lots of situations in my life, had a hard time... but nothing is more important than YOU and your HEALTH.)

Hope to hear more of you =)

Best wishes,

Tara

Hi Jeannie, hope you're getting well soon. Don't give up just now. Just look at it as a great opportunity for your fiance to learn to cook. And in induction, there's not much cooking that need to be done. Salad's are easy, but grilled veggies too! And I'm sure your fiance now's how to grill - bbq something ;-) just also throw some veggies along the meat on the grill.

About the cravings. When I am having serious cravings and feel like loosing it, I turn to this forum. I go and read the success stories, have a look at the amazing transformation pictures and focus. Focus on my goal, imagine how I'm going to look and feel when I finally shed the pounds.

Make a deal with yourself and commit. You owe it to yourself.... at least that's what I'm telling myself in such moments.

LosingItNow will become famous soon enough
Default Re: Struggling

I just restarted a two weeks ago yesterday. By the first night, I was sick. No, really sick. I had a sore throat and felt awful. It would have been the perfect excuse to quit the diet (have some orange juice....)... Start again when I was feeling better. But I promised myself I was sticking with it! And doing it right! (Doing it right was my big downfall last time around). You can do it! Sounds like it is important for you and your fiance.

Now, as for the mac and cheese. Maybe you could make some cauliflower and melt some american cheese on it. It might help with the comfort food. Just remember not to over do it. You know stick with the portions Dr. Atkins has laid out in his book.

Another induction friendly (comfort food) is the pumpkin desert listed in the desert forumn. That is if you like pumpkin. I am not good with cream (it slows my weight loss), but slowed weightloss is better than no weightloss.

Hope you feel better soon.

Listen to LosingItNow, she has given you great advice. Sometimes we all have cravings, but you know, are biggest craving is losing the weight. So, stay strong, we know you can do this. Oh, and about the cream, I'm am so with her on that, once I taste just a little cream, my weightloss is stalled.
