| Hi Chicks, So great to hear that you have been taking steps to better your health. And welcome to ADBB. It is a great community. Eating nuts, drinking milk and having strawberries is not Atkins induction legal. I suggest reading Atkins New Diet Revolution to help you understand what Atkins really is. In the mean time take a look at these threads for your basic information See also http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6783 (Atkins at a Glance) http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6782 (What are the Rules of Induction?) http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6781 (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)

| Ivy--Thanks for the advice on the the induction stage. I did read the book as well as research on the medical websites about this diet. But since my daughter is only 12 she needs to have carbs in her diet, or so the Dr. told me. I think a handful of nuts and strawberries and milk are alot better than a 1/2 bag of potato chips at night, which is what she normally ate. ![]() We were BIG carb eaters so I think that anything we do to cut out the carbs is good. Don't you? Perhaps I should just say we are on a low-carb diet and not Atkins. Thanks again for the advice and the links. Joe--thanks for the support |

| I agree about your daughter 100%. Have to be careful about diets and kids both the physical and psychological aspect. I hope it goes well. But you can still follow plan right? One of the good things about following Atkins as it was written down is that you learn some self control by being strict. At least that is what my experience was.

| I have no excuse but that I want Kylie to see that I'm doing the same thing that she is. I eat veggies and meat when she's at school, but eat the same breakfast (eggs meat/ oatmeal), dinner and snacks. I'm not pushing the weight loss, mostly the inches that we're losing, which has been really visible since we started last week. Tomorrow we start with gravity pilates at the Y and are looking forward to that. Kylie plays soccer and has alot of muscle on her already, which accounts for her some of her weight. it's just her middle, that needs to be toned as does mine. She loves to eat and since the Dr suggested the Atkins, I thought that would be good, because she can eat alot. Which is funny, because tonight at dinner she and I shared a big chicken breast and had some aspargus and she only had one serving of each and was full. Normally she is taking 2nd and 3rds of mac and cheese or potatos. Thanks for the support. |

| Atkins DANDR suggested starting at OWL for some people with heavy athletic needs etc, so I think starting her out at that stage is a great idea! I love seeing the support you are giving your daughter.
