Frank23 is on a distinguished road
Default Hey Guys

I decided to start the Atkins diet. My goal is to lose about 50 pounds. I just have a few questions.

The meal plans they give you are to time consuming. Is there any basic meals that I could follow?

Also, how do you know how much you can eat of something? For instance, how big of a steak? How many eggs? How many pork chops? Im confused.

Induction is how long? 2 weeks? I need to know the guidlines of this diet. Im really excited to start it, I just want to do it the right way!

Thanks for any input!

Frank

Default Re: Hey Guys

hello and welcome to the atkins way of eating. i was wondering if you have the book? you really need to read the book to understand how this diet works. DR. Atkins' New Diet Revolution(DANDR) is the book we go by on this site. it really is imparative that you read the book. if you don't have the book yet, you should really read the Sticky's on this forum, especially the one's on the induction forum. you should also check out the FAQ forum. they should answer any questions you may have about starting this woe.

you also need to drink plenty of water everyday. atleast 8 8 oz glasses + 8 ozs for every 25 lbs needed to lose. also, i would recommend that you try to stay off the scales until the end of the 2 week induction period, so many people rely on everyday weigh ins and get discouraged if they don't move in the right direction everyday.

good luck to you on your journey,
monie

Hey Frank, Welcome to the ADBB! Monie's right, you should definitely get a copy of the book if you don't already have it. It will explain everything and is easy to follow. The meal plans are just suggestions. The Atkins way of eating can be easily tailored to your style of cooking and things you like to eat. Good luck and HAPPY LOSING!

Amen on getting the book! The beauty of this way of eating is you eat till you are satisfied. Usually after 4 days your appetite decreases! The book explains it all!

Good luck on your journey!

I've tried this diet a million times and avoided the book like the plague cause i dont want to read it. instead i just went by whatever my dad would tell me because he read it. i know, im a hypocrite because i tell newbs on the site to read the book, even though my deepest darkest secret is that i havent' read it either.

BUT! I've gotten sick of being confused, and seeing people quote the book, or refer to a chapter and i can't. I've done the diet so many times and failed, and its just really started to bother me that i haven't read the book. So, I'm going out and getting it today. I'm going to read it this weekend, and essentially start my diet over, doing it right and going onto OWL the right way so I can be successful.

Sorry about the rant...my point was...even if you don't want to get the book, and you feel like you can get around the book by just reading this or the atkins website...you can't get around it. buy the book, I'm going to today.

Welcome to Frank!

The others are right, you absolutely need to get the book and read it from cover to cover. Knowing why Atkins works is just as important to success as knowing how to follow the process correctly and the book will teach you all you need to know in both areas.

Best of luck on your weight loss journey and if you need anything please feel free to give a shout!

Default Re: Hey Guys

Great thing about induction is 2 cups of salad and 1 cup of veggie's a day or 3 cups of salad (no cooking needed)
so cook up a giant steak, an entire chicken, or even a whole fish--then add it to your salads all week.
and the awesome Batch cooking idea's you will read on this board will really reduce the time consumption you are worried about.
