Hi guys,

Can anyone help? Been on atkins for 8 years - always on induction. Weight has varied but last year was going really well and weighed 6 stone no matter how much chicken and cheese and I ate (also has fish and veg and tofu, soya milk, creme fraiche and nuts but mostly chicken and cheese ) I have never had more than 15gms of carbs a day in the whole 8 years. However a few months ago my weight started to creep up and now 7 stone. I haven't done anything different to my diet - thought it may be cheese so stopped this but did not help. Then thought alpro light soya milk was the prob so gave up this but still no weight loss. Then gave up chicken and this didn't work either! Finally, tried the fat fast and went back to just above 6 and half stone. Reintroduced chicken and have gone up to 7 stone again in 2 days! well confused - help why can loose weight and why this sudden random weight gain when I haven't changed my diet?

Mel, a few questions... How old are you? Are you male or female? Do you exercise and drink your water? Do you track the quantities of chicken, etc. you eat?

Hi ,

Thanks for replying - 27 years, female, do 45 minutes of yoga every morning - drink 6 litres of water a day - when I am only having chicken - eat 3/4s of a whole chicken a day - thought may be too much protein but when I reduced the amount of chicken, still no weight loss - really not sure what to try next - fat fast again? but couldn't stay on this long term and worried that as soon as I come off it, i'l regain weight again. Used to drink loads of decaf coffee when my diet was really working well- recently stopped drinking this so thought this may have stopped me loosing weight but now have started drinking loads again, still no weight loss? mm well confused x

Mel, if you are 27 years old and weigh 91 pounds right now, you're still too thin. Certainly at 84 pounds for 8 years, your body is starved. You need to eat healthy. Get lots of fat and veggies with all that protein. Excess protein turns to glucose. Atkins is high fat, not that what you are doing is Atkins. You know from doing the fat fast that eating fat is how to lose weight or maintain a healthy body.

I agree with Sunny. You are not getting proper nutrition and your body is fighting back. You have very little fat and no vegetable nutrients. Your body is so starved for the things you aren't giving it that It is probably holding onto everything it can get. Get to a doctor and get checked out on nutrition, your unexplained weight change, and whether or not you need to be trying to lose at all.

thanks loads guys - was scared to eat more veg incase I put on weight because of the carbs but going to try frying it in olive oil so hopefully the fat will counteract the effect of the carbs. Know I am not overweight but I collect really lumpy fatty deposits above my knees and they are really bad now I have put this extra weight on so it gets me down. Will watch the protein intake too - hopefully my fat knees will go - thanks again x
