Default Hello

Hi, just introducing myself.

This is 'third time lucky' re Atkins for me. I first tried Atkins in 2004. I was a vegetarian at the time, and I'm afraid I just became totally 'egged out' - to the extent that I remember standing in the supermarket aisle just looking at the egg boxes and feeling nauseous - just by looking at the boxes! At the time I never wanted to see another egg again! It did work though, and earlier this year, as a meat eater again, my DH and I decided to have another go. In March I lost 18 pounds in 3 weeks on induction, then another 3 pounds more slowly. Afraid I fell off the wagon - if we go out on a Sunday, we usually end up in a coffee/tea shop, and I was so missing the cakes!

The thing is though, probably like many of you, I have struggled for years with low fat diets - joining clubs, buying the magazines etc., and they have never worked for me in the way Atkins has, so I decided for another try. We both started again on induction one week ago, and so far I have lost 6 pounds, my DH 5 pounds. No hunger, very few cravings after the first 3-4 days, such delicious food!!! This time I need to stick with it, so I have tried to learn from my previous falls off the wagon...

I have learned that I need to stay excited about the food choices I have. In the past I have fallen into the trap of not planning ahead, and ended up eating a lot of ham/egg salads - tasty, but not inspiring, and not using the plan to the full. I enjoy cooking, so I have hunted out loads of recipes and ideas to keep me enthusiastic about trying them out. That's how I ended up here.

We went out on Sunday, and we did go to a coffee shop, but I had packed a 'legal' picnic and knowing we had that to look forward to meant we found it easier to resist the cakes, and just have coffee. I also packed some cream in the cool box, so if we ended up wanting a take away coffee later we could just go for plain black and add our own cream!

I've also got some emergency peppermint creams/ice in the freezer - I adapted a recipe from someone on the forum for 'Cinnamon buttons' and used peppermint essence instead - Cream Cheese, tblspn cream, sweetener and few drops of peppermint essence. Freeze teaspoons of the mixture on a plate. One or two is enough for me, if I feel the need, so a couple of times this week I've had peppermint creams after dinner! The texture is more like an ice-cream, but they work for me. Later when out of induction I'm going to try them with some sugar free chocolate on top.

Anyway this is turning into a long introduction, so I'll finish with my 'facts and figure!'

I live in the UK, I'm 46, height 5ft 2 ins.

Heaviest weight - 245 lbs (17st 7 lbs)

Starting weight in March 08 - 238 lbs, loss of 21 lbs to take me down to 217 lbs.

Starting weight this time on July 10th - 220 lbs (15 st 10 lbs)
Weight loss by July 17th - 6 lbs - current weight 214 lbs (15st 4 lbs)
Total loss since end March this year 24 lbs.

Hi to all,

Pat

PS - I suppose I should also say that I have read the book! It's my constant companion at the moment!

Default Re: Hello

Hi and thanks for the welcome.

57 lbs lost - keep on like that and you'll soon have to change your user name! Well done!

I'm pleased to report another pound gone this morning, so that's 25 in total. I'm going to stay off the scales for a few days now, as I've found that I have a pattern of a couple of days showing a loss each day, then maybe a gain of a pound, stay the same for a few more days, and then lose for the next two days! As that seems to be the pattern I intend to avoid weighing myself until sometime next week!

I already feel much healthier - I have IBS - have had it since I was 15. When I am eating this way it simply disappears - practically immediately. I know that wheat is one of my triggers to set it off, and some fruits, especially in combination, so this way of eating isn't just right for me to get the extra weight off, but is an immediate boost to how I feel, as IBS symptoms are at best unpleasant and at worst (ahem) let's just say - a bit anti-social!!!!

Anyway, got to dash now. When I have a bit more time I'll sort myself out a signature and a ticker. Good Luck with your day.

Pat

Hi 'flpooh' and thanks for the welcome. I haven't posted a reply earlier because I have been reading through some more of the board. There is so much support and knowledge on here!

I am trying to input my profile details etc., When I go into CP it lets me input the info OK, but if you click on my profile details on my name at the top of my posts it brings up information for a different 'Pat' Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

Pat

That's a weird one. I hope you get it figured out. There is a thread for technical issues. Have you tried posting this problem there?

Thanks for the suggestion, I have posted it on the technical forum, so I'll wait and see. I probably won't post anything else now until it is sorted out, as my posts will be going onto sombody else's profile! (well, sort of - apparently I am now retired - I know Atkins changes your life, but I didn't expect it to change me into someone else!!! )

In the meantime though, I continue my trawl through the site, and save up all my posts for once it is sorted.

Hope everybody is having a great week-end. I'm just off to the dining table for butter basted Turkey with Bacon, herbs and lemon, plus cauliflower and green beans, but not 'til after I've had another glass of water!

Default Re: Hello

welcome pat. glad you found your way back to this amazing wol. i can totally relate to what you said about the eggs. i've been there and done that. even though they are a well balanced food to have on the plan, they do tend to become a little bit of a stomach turner for me if just eating them by themseves after a while. the mock danish from Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes has become on of my favorite dishes for breakfast. the cream cheese and splenda seems to balance out the egg, and sometimes i add a couple of spoons full of pumpkin to it as well. adding the pumpkin to it gives it a great taste, and kinda reminds me more of a pancake.

if you haven't checked out linda's recipe site yet, it has some other really great recipes as well. i'm gonna try the portabella parmesan tonight, it looks really great. just remember that she marks her induction friendly recipes with an (*).

i wish you much success, and hope you get things sorted out with your signature soon.

Hi Monie,

Tom sorted out my problem with my user ID last night - (thanks Tom) so I can post away now as myself! Hopefully my signature and ticker should come up on this post - fingers crossed!

Thanks for the welcome. I love the mock danish recipe. I have had a look at Linda's site and it is bookmarked for future menus.

Another pound down on the scales today - I've just realised that once I lose another two pounds I'll be a quarter of the way there. I'm so content with this way of eating - I feel like a new person. I have been reading the Losers' Lounge thread earlier today - all the success stories on the site are so inspiring, and it is such a supportive place. I think I'm becoming an ADBB addict!
