Default Hi, I'm new

Hello all! My name is Dayna and I've been doing Atkins for 3 weeks.

I had surgery 4.5 weeks ago and while I was at home recovering I decided that if I couldn't exercise, I needed to eat clean. Like many others, I was on a low fat diet and exercised a lot and still gained weight. I knew from a past Atkins experience that I do lose weight on Atkins. The past experience was 2 years ago. And while I was happy I was losing weight I was not fully committed to the lifestyle and I really didn't explore all the wonderful food options.

When I was at home recovering from my surgery I cooked all my meals and snacks and explored low carb and I'm convinced this is the way to go. I did slowly drop my carbs for 2 weeks to see how I would eat once I reached maintenace level (90-110 carbs I figured) just so I would know what was coming when my carb level was really low. I found that I will have absolutely no problem eating this way.

I've been on induction about a week know. Within the last 3 weeks, I've lost 6 lbs (and 2 weeks of that were experimenting!). I feel I have 15-20 lbs more to lose but I'll decide that once I lose more weight.

I'm also training for my 2nd marathon right now so it will be challenging to balance carbs for training during long runs, though I have come across some low carb marathoner sites. Any suggestions on this would be very welcome! I have a lot more research to do!

With thyroid problems and hypoglycemia events and just plain hunger on low fat diets, I know my body does best on low carb so cheers to being creative and eating good-for-you gourmet food! I've already explored some of the recipes on this forum and I'm looking forward to exploring the site further.

Dayna

Welcome Dayna. Great that you can us. You are so right, Atkins works. And though sugar is addictive, we can beat it with good whole food.
About the running there are several ADBBers who have run marathons and some that are currently in training to run more. (Seems like once you start, you are hooked). I am currently just beginning running but one of my ADBB running partner Quotidienlight is currently training to run in the Napa in March. Very exciting. There are several running threads in the Exercise forum. So if you have any questions fire them down there.
