Exclamation With Arms Wide Open (HELLO!)

I love that song. LOL. Hoping you will all welcome me with arms wide open as I have lurked for a few days and noticed how helpful and happy you all seem.

My name is Brittni and I'm 19. I have never been overweigh before but have gained a significant amount of weigh since highschool when I used to be 119-123lbs. Now I'm at 170lbs. I have worked with a personal trainer 2x week and been eating healthy every 3 hours for over 2 months now with hardly any success. I'm hoping Atkins will change that. My mom is also doing this diet with me (her idea.)

The plan is to do the Induction phase for (at least) 1 month. I have a friend coming to visit me exactly 1 month from my starting date, so it just gives me all the more motivation to do this the right way. Typically I don't have problem following strictly to plans, I've done Fat Smash Diet before a million times (only the first phase, simply to gain it back LOL!) which was all fruit/veg. Its going to be hardest for me to not have fruit. But I know I can do this with the right tools in place.

I love working out and hope that "rigirous" exercize won't slow down my metabolism and put me into starvation mode/storing fat? It seems that is what my body has been doing even though I have tried to eat around 1,400 calories a day. Typically I work out 5x week for at least 1 hr. 1x a week that is with weights. Otherwise it's the stair stepper, eliptical, treadmill, excersize balls, etc.

Anyways. Please let me know how I'm doing! So far for the Induction Phase (which I started yesterday) --

Day 1 - 08/05/08
Breakfast: 3 Turkey Sausage, 1 cup scrambled eggs
Snack: String cheese
Lunch: LaTortilla 1-carb wrap, Sara Lee honey ham, very small shredded cheddar cheese, and 1 c. lettuce.
Snack: String cheese
Dinner: 2 plain Hamburgers w/Worsetchire Sauce, 1 c. green beans
Snack: String cheese

Worked out @ gym for 1 hr with PT.

Day 2 (thus far) - 08/06/08
Breakfast: 1 Turkey Sausage, 1/4 c. scrambled eggs, 1 "doughnut" (3 carbs)
Snack: 1/4 c. cucumber
Lunch: LaTortilla 1-carb wrap, Sugar-free Pizza Sauce, 1 string cheese shredded on top

Sending sunshine and positive energy to all of you!!!

Please, PLEASE leave me as much feedback as you can! I can't wait to hear, encourage, and most of all LEARN from all of you!

Hi Brittni

You might find the tortilla wraps slow your loss....it's definitely a YMMV thing. I know some of Atkins sample menus have those kinds of products listed, yet in contradiction, they aren't on the allowed food list for the first two weeks.

Good luck to you and your Mom!!

Thanks so much ladies!

I feel quite stupid for believing my mom when she said the tortilla and ham was okay. She thinks just because her friend did induction that way that we all can. I'm more of a strict to the rules person than she is. So whatever. Kind of frustrating because she just keeps saying "Well SUE did it this way..." Well, that's not the way I want to do it. I want to do it by the book! Oh well, I'll be clean tommorow.

As for the doughnuts, they weren't bad at all - definitely good if you have a sweet tooth or want a treat without cheating! I think more splenda in the actual dough would make it taste better, but my mom had them made already this morning. The glaze you really don't need much of because it's pretty strong flavored which I didn't think it would be. Try them!!!

I stink at baking, and I have a heck of a time with stiffening egg whites, but this just might be worth a shot. They do look soooo good!

Brittni,
Welcome.
I was just going to say that there is lots of sweetener in that doughnut recipe. We are only allowed 3 sweeteners a day.
You may want to try to kick your sweet tooth by NOT feeding it. It could work. Give it a shot.

I actually dont have too much of a sweet tooth and rarely get hungry. I used to barely eat which slowed down my metabolism tons because I just never had an appetite.

I don't use sweetener in anything else though so I just think the doughnuts might've been a treat. I would ask mom to cut out the splenda but it's only 1 packet and the rest comes from the syrup. I don't think in 1 serving it's too bad - I'll have to recheck. However they aren't something I'll be eating every day as I'd prefer to stay on track!

Thank you for the tips ladies! Keep 'em coming! Have a fabulous day!!!

Chicklady - Almost all of the ingredients Im sure you already have and are cheap (besides the sugar free syrup) so I def. think it's worth a go. My mom is no expert at baking (that'd be me!) and she made them just fine.
