| Hello Naserath and welcome to the ADBB! Since you only have a day or so before a key meeting, here are some quick points with links: 1. If you can follow in the footsteps of Trisha001 (above) you will be losing a lot of weight soon! She has been a strict follower of the DANDR book..with great results. See: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...s-57-days.html (30 Pounds In 57 Days! :)) 2. You can get some help from Sherri from Oregon who turned around diabetes. Here is a link to one of her posts, scroll down to find her comment in this posting: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-starting.html (thinking about starting) 3. When you talk with the nurse, you may or may not want to identify your proposed way of life / diet as Atkins. There have been some good discussions here about how people are spooked by "Atkins." An alternative is to say you want to avoid a lot of bad carbs and instead eat veggies and fish, plus ramp up exercise. One such thread on what people say about Atkins is illy's rant: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...have-rant.html (I have a rant) 4. Having said that, since you will be talking with a nurse, know that research, doctors and the press have been turning positive on Atkins. See the research links, such as: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...after-all.html (The Atkins diet may have proved itself after all) Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes this week.

| I went to see the nurse who told me my other blood test results. she said I had high cholestral as well as diabetes type 2. we discussed weight loss and I told her that I wanted to start cutting out bad carbs out of my diet ( but did not mention the atkins name ) and start exercise but she told me that a low fat low sugar diet was the way to go. she said that because my cholestral was so high she would not advise me to follow a diet that allowed me to eat foods so high in fat because I would be putting myself at risk of a heart attack. I,m confused . she did not put me on any medication, not even for the diabetes instead she is giving me a month to prove myself that I can lose weight. have to go back in a month for a check. any one on here that was in the same situation? nus

| I can't give you any advise on the diabetes. Too bad you can't have 6 months to prove yourself instead of 1. My cholesterol went up the first 2 months on Atkins and then my bad cholesterol went way down and my good cholesterol went way up. It took a few months to do this though. I just wanted you to be aware that if you do Atkins, it is normal for cholesterol to be raised for a few months before it drops down.
