Default Atkins reloaded

I have been on the Atkins Diet several times in my life. Most successful attempt was loosing 40 lbs in 3 months about 5 years ago. This attempt was assisted by Phentermine.

This time is different. I had and have a motivator unlike any other in my life. On June 3rd of this year I suffered a heart attack.

I am not even sure what day I started the diet, even though it was only a couple of months ago my memory is hazy. I do know as of today I have lost 40 lbs in less time than my previous best attempt.

This time instead of Phetermine, which they would not let me have anyway, I am exercising. When I first started exercising when I got out of the hospital I could barley walk 1/4 mile. Now I walk 6 miles every morning. I also just finished up a 6 week cardiac rehab program. I plan on joining a gym soon to vary my workout.

I am also weaning myself off of prescriptions, following the teachings of Dr. Atkins in his book Vita-Nutrient Solution and others.

I still have a lot of weight to loose, but I am feeling very confident. I also find it is very hard to be depressed when you are loosing weight. I am loosing about a pound a day right now. I know that won't last forever, but I will stay on induction until I have about 30 lbs to loose.

Heart attack and Atkins? Any others out there bucking the AMA and doing this?

You may be wondering, how is my lipid profile looking:

June 6th
HDL 31
LDL 84
Triglycerides 304

HDL 30
LDL 77
Triglycerides 110

Not there with those, got to get my HDL up, but for the most part the numbers are moving in the right direction.

Congrats on getting off to a great start! I have to ask though... when you are showing your cholesterol numbers, they seem to be very low... hdl+ldl numbers barely over 100! And, the ratio is very good too.. my doctors always said that a 3:1 ratio was good.

A lb a day is great for now, but it's good to know that you won't be able to maintain that loss... the more you lose, the slower it will be, and that's as it should be. The closer you get to your goal weight, the slower it will come off. Right now though, enjoy what you're having! It's a great time to lose some lbs and get into new habits.

Congrats on joining the Atkins team.... and I wish you great health in the coming years!!!!

Original goal: Lose 30 lbs by Mar. 1st, 2006. I made it!!!

Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

Welcome, congrats on your success so far, and keep us posted on your progress. Will be curious how you feel once you get into a gym for a month.

Thanks Rick! Chapter 15 page 179 of DANDR 97' (i'll find the 2002 version since that is what is used here) pretty much says the most import ratio is triglycerides to HDL, reading elsewhere I found this needs to be 2:1 or better.
