Smile Trying this...again

So it’s been about 8 months since I tried to commit to the Atkins lifestyle ( I consider it a lifestyle change, diets NEVER work). Quite honestly, I was very consistent for the first two weeks – I noticed myself getting a sudden burst of energy in the mornings, a slight disgust anytime I saw rice and the determination I seemed to lack came back. Well, when thanksgiving rolled around I threw the diet out the window and never returned.
So today, as a consequence of quitting, I sit at 219 pounds – the highest I’ve ever weighed. To give you a bit of a background story of myself…I’m 22 years old, 5’7 and I am the classic example of a yo-yo dieter. I can lose 5 pounds in 2 days, and gain it in one. I was not a fat child, in fact my mother took me to the doctor several times as a kid concerned at my lack of an appetite. When my family decided to pack up our things and move to new york (I’m originally from a little island in the Caribbean), my appetite seemed to dramatically change. Things that weren’t available to me (such as waffles, pancakes, ice cream sandwiches) were now at my beck and call. In my country such sweet treats were considered a luxury, but in New York, my dad could bring a whole bag of goodies for under $10 dollars. By the fifth grade I noticed I was a bit heavier-set than my other class mates and that’s when I first started my battle with weight management, but by the time Jr. High and High school rolled around I got in shape and maintained myself at 150-160. I gain weight proportionately and it takes a substantial amount of weight to finally “show”. At 219, I could still get away with some clothes and still look shapely, but my health is now at risk and the freshman 15 turned into 50 pounds. A sedentary college lifestyle, on and off depression caused me to gain such weight. I’m not pointing fingers, I did let myself get reckless but I’m finally trying to get control of myself…Today is my first day and any tips and encouragement are gladly welcomed.

Thanks for reading and good luck to all.
God Bless,

-O-

This is me at about 208…end of 2006

This is me in May 2007...I was about 210 or 211...

Me too...trying again. I was successful once and got to goal - then I stopped this way of eating. Gained it all back. 215 now. 160 the goal. I'm 44, 5'10".

I just need support - it's hard to do with a husband and two teenagers...
