Default Howdy all ... day 2 of Induction

50 y.o., 6'4", 236 pounds, looking to get to about 190 -- lighter than my senior year in high school.

I first registered here to get information on why I felt so lousy this morning. I knew it would take some adjustment, but I felt worse than expected -- like I had a fever but without the actual fever. I had had some mild cold-like symptoms Friday evening -- the day before I began induction -- so I couldn't rule out actual illness.

But a good search here gave me the probable answer: induction flu. I had virtually no energy, I had a mild headache, and I was dizzy. Feeling better now, but I'm ahead of myself.

First, I've been a 2-3 cup a day coffee drinker for decades. To gear up for Atkins, I quit that three weeks ago. I figured that to quit carbs and caffeine cold turkey at the same time would have been a big mistake. Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be -- mild to moderate headaches 2-3 days into it, and that's been it. And somewhat surprisingly, I haven't missed it.

I began induction yesterday. I figured a 4-day weekend (I'm off Labor Day and Tuesday) with little to do would be a good chance for the jump start before returning to work. Glad I did after the way I felt this morning.

Felt pretty good throughout the day yesterday, though I felt sluggish at bedtime. And then this morning. I was surprised I didn't have much appetite for eggs and sausage -- I love meat and a hearty breakfast. I was briefly craving carbs, but that went away after breakfast.

Good thing is that I am in ketosis already -- the Ketostix was pink. Seemed a little quick for that, but I'm not complaining.

So after lying around doing virtually nothing and dozing off a couple of times, I'm feeling much better. Just finished off a salad with stir-fried beef (in lots of olive oil) on top. And looking forward to the journey!

Jim

Thanks for the welcomes and encouragement.

The induction flu was indeed short-lived. I still felt kind of sluggish through most of the day yesterday. I went to bed early and was awake at 5:00 a.m. today. I got up feeling good and went straight to the kitchen to cook 1+ pounds of bacon (a few days' supply) and an omelet.

If that's the worst it gets, it should be smooth sailing from here.

that's the worse it gets, unless you imbibe in one of those "just one cheat won't hurt" days.....the carb hangover sucks and you'll soon discover it ain't worth it

I don't think I'll be too tempted. Like I said before, I'm a meat lover. Using conventional doctrine, I considered buffets the worst for sticking to a diet. Just couldn't lay off the chicken, roast, barbecue, ham, whatever. And multiple trips to the trough were a given. I would eat small portions of veggies, rice, and potatoes, probably to give myself some lame reassurance of eating a "balanced" meal. But they were deliberately small because I wanted to leave room for the good stuff -- the meat!

So as long as I have some good animal protein (with its fat) within arm's reach, I should be good.

An update on day 3 of induction: I've been rather energetic today. Spent most of the morning in the kitchen preparing meals for the next several days for home and for work: chicken, Italian sausage, ham, lo-carb coleslaw. Then I hit the trail at the local park for about a two-mile walk.

Seems that the majority of members here (active anyway) are female. Not sure if I can handle hanging with mostly women. The only other forums I frequent are automotive, so I'm in the majority there. But I'll tough it out. Just don't tell my fiancee I'm here.
