Default Hi Everyone!

I've done this before too - like many others on this post. I have re-read the book, consulted with my endocrinologist and am ready to be successful. I lost 3 pounds in the last 5 days and the carb cravings are already tapering off - that's the hard part.

I am a Mom and cook for a hubby and two teenagers, which is also a huge challenge as they have no desire to eat this way.

I have syndrome X and Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome. This way of eating truly is the only thing that works for me. I simply didn't stay on it. The first time after 2 years of being at my target weight, I just started eating carbs again - BIG, HEAVY mistake. I know, it's totally my fault.

So, after several years of trying other things again - I am back on board.

I know this works and I know I have to care enough about myself to make it happen.

Here we go.

Thanks for being here - support is so important.

Hi EE You'll get the hang of eating this way and cooking for the rest of the gang....it takes a bit of creativity, but perhaps in the process they'll get a bit healthier. I usually prepare a meat and two or three vegetable dishes, and then add a carb dish for my hubby. In the long run, he's been eating more veggies

Thanks for the support - both of you!

I'm sneaking in more veggies for the family and just smiling at the carbs for them. It's really awesome how quickly the cravings stop controlling me.

I have a long way to go, but a great start - I lost 4 pounds in just a few days. YEAH!

I have two somewhat overweight teenage daughters with PCOS. I know weight management is important in managing the condition. Does your experience, that of others, or your doctor's guidance suggest that Atkins helps it more than other weight loss methods do?

Jim,

PCOS is a very strange conglomeration of things...

I have been to many doctors and tried many things to help with all the symptoms. The Atkins way of eating is the ONLY thing that controls the weight. Very often PCOS is just a cog in the Syndrome X wheel. It's akin to being a diabetic without the spiked blood sugar levels. The body simply cannot process sugar/insulin and the reaction is it stores every molecule of sugar as fat. So, even liquid fasting will not take all the weight off, just a few pounds, then the body learns to use all the sugar in those.

This gets worse as you get older - my sister and I both have it.

It's difficult for a teenager to do this - because you have to think about EVRYTHING that goes into your mouth. But, even if they modify it now, learning early will help them look and FEEL better. I have MUCH more energy and enthusiasm eating this way. It weirdly helps with the pain part of it as well.

You should also have their B12 levels checked - that gets really low for me and exacerbates the entire situation. I take a sublingual supplement every single day.

If your daughters want to talk to me about PCOS, I am available.

Ede
