Default Re-starting, new to posting here:)

Hiya!

I have done Atkins before, by the book, some years ago and had success. Then I went off the wagon, gained weight, fought (still fighting) cholesterol, went low fat, lost more weight, gained 50 of the 70 of it back and here I am, again!

I have a hereditary cholesterol problem that makes it more difficult to fight than the average person, and at 32 it was found that I have 2 arteries 30% blocked and 1 40%blocked. It scared me enough to drop nearly all the fat off my diet and my cholesterol did get down to 147, but my HDL is still far too low. With the new research on Atkins out i want to give it a shot to see if I can simultaneously lose weight and cholesterol and C-RP, while raising my HDL.

Unfortunately I went to the Atkins nutritional site and went by their induction rules, which I think the study was based on but I can't be sure. In any case it is not the book route, so I am starting over with a clean induction. In 2 weeks I have lost 7 pounds and my husband has lost 11, using the Atkins bars and shakes, meat, 4oz of cheese, 2 cups salad, 1 cup peas a day. (peas are apparently allowed during induction on the Atkins site). The bars seem to temporarily knock us out of ketosis though. So, it led me to re-learn induction.

Like I said, we are starting over, by the book, clean induction, no bars or shakes for now (starting on Grocery day Sept. 3).

Thanks for listening!

Kierr

Welcome Kierr to you and your husband!
Congrats for finding ADBB.
Will exercise help your HDL? We have some exercise challenges. Maybe the mileage one like walking, running or biking might help?

Unfortunately my HDL is around 23-26 and does not seem to improve unless my total count goes through the roof. Exercise might raise it a weeee bit. I'll look into a walking challenge. We do have a gym membership too.

I'll also look into the second time around board, thanks!
