Default Getting back on track

Hey...got a question...done Atkins 3 times since 1998( 2001 & 2004).
Each time I met goals with success and better health than before. But somehow with 3 kids, a wife who has more success with low-fat and a sales career I invariably have gotten off-track.
Last 3+ years I have endured some life changes & health issues so now I am ready to get back on with a vengeance but seem to having some issues with what used to be easy : going WAY low on carbs for the last two weeks but not getting into ketosis. Could meds I am now taking but didn't used to be a a problem; I am now on blood pressure med & taking allopurinol to curb uric acid. Also, maybe some low-carb foods might not be helping, but they were not a problem before...plus,maybe age? I turn 50 this month...any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi, Steverino

Welcome aboard!

A few thoughts about your post -

Yes, it is quite possible that meds you take can affect weight loss. It is very important that you work in concert with your doctor... perhaps he can work with you to determine whether or not your meds could be playing a role.

Yes, it is possible that some low carb foods can trip you up. Fortunately, we have a forum here called "Review My Menu", where you can list your foods (make sure to include exact quantities). Maybe someone here can find something that you overlooked or wasn't aware of.

Have you read the 2002 version of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution yet? So, so important! Also, here is a link that I provide for people who are new, or need a refresher course on this WOE (way of eating). If you are NEW, READ THIS!

Even though I have read the book several times, I am in the midst of reading it again now. Great motivation! Here is an excerpt that I read yesterday, that I thought of when I read your post.

--------------------------------------

TIME FOR REALISM

To think that the present will be just like the past is another mind trap. Alarm bells ring when I hear someone say, "But I'm not losing the way I did ten years ago." It isn't ten years ago, Ace. I wish I were ten years younger, too. The normal pattern of human aging is that we find it easier to stay slim when we're young, and it gets harder as the decades pass. Unfortunately, this rule applies to you, too.

-------------------------------------

Now, don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to imply that it's impossible to succeed! If you'll take a look at my stats, you will see that it took me more than one time to get this Atkins stuff right. And I was able to lose more this time around! I've been following the plan to the letter this time, and it has paid off. My point is this - re-educate yourself on the plan, and use this board for its many resources. I've included some links in that sticky I directed you to earlier in this post that will help.

Good luck!

Awesome reply...thanks for taking the time...I saw some of your posts & pics this morning before I posted and it appears that you are a tried & true officer and veteran of this army!

OK, will read the 2002 version, I have only read the edition that was available in 1998. Plus remebering that I am 10 yrs older is huge...

Thanks again Mitzi...."see" you around here!
