Default another Newbie to Atkins

Hello all! My name is Martha and I just started Atkins this past Tuesday, November 4th and have lost 2 pounds in 3 days. I am very fortunate to have a trainer as I won a radio contest and I am competing against 6 other people to lose the most body fat. The contest ends the end of December. I am down around 9 since we started. We started the last week in September.

I have been really working hard to lose weight and it just wasn't coming off the way I felt it should for all the hard work. I mean I gave up fast food, beer, candy/sweets and was working with a personal trainer for 5 days a week! Why was I only losing a pound here and a pound there and then one week gain a pound.

I went to Barnes and Noble this past weekend and picked up the Atkins book and couldn't put it down. I sat down and read for an hour and half and then bought the book. I thought I would give it a try.

Before I started this I was told by my Dr. that i am border line diabetic and that after taking the gluten test that i was border line gluten free.

I have been keeping a food log since the beginning of September and my carb intakes varied from: 100 - 220 per day and my sugar intake was really high. I was eating good all good foods and grains and fruits and veggies etc. After being on Atkins for only 3 days I am feeling a little slugish which sounds like one of the side effects and I have headaches on and off. I am hoping this way of life will work for me, I have a good feeling this is what my body needs.

I am anxious to check out the rest of the site and get to know you all.

Thanks and have a great weekend everyone!

Martha

Hi, Martha

Welcome to ADBB!

Hey, just curious - which particular Atkins book are you following? This board is based around the 2002 version of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR for short). I ask, because I have read the books put out by "the company" since the death of Dr. Atkins, and there are some fundamental differences. I'm not saying it's impossible to lose weight on the newer plan, but I just wanted to explain where the advice on this board comes from.

How fantastic that you have a trainer! Exercise will help you so much!! Good for you, for doing it. Lots of folks find exercise the hardest part of the Atkins lifestyle.

Make sure to explore all that this board has to offer... it is HUGE, and there's something for everyone. Good luck!

Martha, is the copyright in the front of the book from the 1970's, 1992, or 2002? There are slight variations in each of them. We follow the 2002 version here, but no matter which one you have, I'm sure that you'll do fine, as long as you stick close to the board and ask lots of questions.

Also, in case you haven't seen it yet, I'd like to include a link to a "sticky" that I wrote that contains some useful tidbits of information. Here you go: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-new-read.html (If you are NEW, READ THIS!)

And thank you for kindly for the compliments.
