Cool Soon to be starting Atkins

Hi everyone, I'm Darren and I've come to realisation that I really need to shift some weight!

I'm 32 years old and live in Cambridge, England. I am 6ft tall and weigh 17st 9lbs (247lbs).

Earlier this year we had a baby girl so for her sake I want to get my weight under control so I can be around for her for as long as possible. I don't care about being stick thin, but I hope to get down to 14st and stay there at the very least.

I've been looking at different options for shedding the unwanted pounds and I am convinced that Atkins would be the best plan for me. Having only prepacked bars, shakes and soups does not appeal to me at all.

I'd be happy to hear any tips that you guys might have for me to get me started in my new life of laying off the bread and pasta! I am going to be reading up on the Atkins plan more this week and I plan to begin the induction next Monday, 23rd November.

Wish me luck!

Hi Darren,

Welcome to the board!

Besides the book (DANDR 2002), there are some stickies on this board that worth reading. I've pasted some links below:
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-approach.html (BEFORE you begin the Atkins Nutritional Approach...)
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What are the Rules of Induction?)
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ood-links.html

Good luck!

Imagine that you're doing great, losing weight, feeling better than ever, thrilled with yourself, hearing compliments from friends and acquaintances---and then it happens! Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!"

Hi, Darren! Welcome

After you've read the "stickies," stock your pantry with all your Atkins goodies. Check in here often ... it really helps keep you motivated. To keep an online food/exercise diary, you can start a free account at FitDay.

Congrats on becoming a Dad! That's the greatest incentive of all, isn't it?

Welcome aboard!

I also recommend checking out the recipes here. Alot of them are surprisingly very good, and they'll help you vary your diet over the first few weeks, which will keep you from getting board & falling off the wagon.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will have to set up a FitDay account soon, that sounds like it would be a big help.

I am focusing on cutting out caffeine this week which is killing me! I will also work on my induction menus this week and make a start. A part of me is really nervous about all this, but I am excited too as I believe I can get the results I am looking for.

Cool Re: Soon to be starting Atkins

I have now decided to officially start the Atkins induction tomorrow. I have read quite a low now so feel I have quite a good grip on what I should and should not be doing. I am trying to figure out my menu for the rest of the week, but at least for tomorrow I plan to eat:

Breakfast: Cheese omelette (2 eggs, cheese, tbsp butter, no milk)

Lunch: Watercress, spinach & rocket salad 35g, chicken breast 70g, medium grated cheddar 70g

Dinner: Beef steak, red bell pepper, broccoli and mushrooms

+ Multivitamin of course!

I will be drinking lots of water and occaisonally having herbal tea (no caffeine!)

Please wish me luck, I will be keeping track of all this in FitDay so I stay on the straight and narrow.

Are there any last minute tips anyone can give me?
