Default New to Forums - Not to Atkins

Hey there my name is Nicole, I'm 28, I live in Northern CA, I'm married, and have an 11 year old daughter.

I did Atkins for a little while before my wedding in 2004 ans lost 40 pounds. The Induction phase was really easy for me back then and so was sticking to the diet. I fell off the diet after I got married and went on a cruise. Since then I have been gaining my weight back + more. Its been a long and depressing struggle.

Right now I weight about 230 and I need to lose half of me. I am only 5' so all this extra weight looks and feels horrible on my short frame.

My daughter have been mimicking my habits and is now about 30 pounds overweight. She is losing her self confidence and I feel like I have set my child up for years of struggles and low self esteem, If I don't change.

For the past month we have been walking about 3 days a week after school. I have helped her with cutting back on sugar and am constantly helping her make better food choices, like an apple instead of chips.

Shes is doing great and I can already see some of her weight coming off. I on the other hand am still sneaking food and being lazy when I should be going to the gym on the days I am not walking.

I am really tired of sitting around and watching life pass me and my daughter by. I really need to get back on the Atkins plan and not stop.

My major problem is sugar, I am so addicted to sugar is ridiculous. I can't stop myself. Starting the Induction again is proving to be very hard for me this time around. Tomorrow will be the first day I start again.

If anyone has any tips to help me stay away from sweets I would really love to hear them.

So this is my short story/introduction and I hope to gain some support and motivation through these forums!

Hi, Nicole! Welcome back to Atkins. Your story has a familiar ring for many of us, I'm sure. But you've taken the big step and have decided "Now's the time" ... good for you! You can do it

Ah, sugar ... I feel your pain! I wouldn't call the first week of Induction a big hoot and a holler, but it's bearable; I found that by day five, the sugar cravings stopped altogether. And - like you - I was a HUGE sugar junkie! If I can do it, anyone can!

Checking in with the board frequently is a huge help ... I recommend daily, if possible. Read everything. Once you get rolling, sign up for some Challenges ... they keep you motivated and they're fun, too . Keeping a diary of your food and activities via a free FitDay account will keep you honest!

I applaud you for wanting to set a good example for your daughter, and help her achieve a good body image. Bravo!
