Been fighting my weight for 30 years. Did a low carb diet in my teens, but was advised by my doctor not to do it when I get older. Such is the prevailing wisdom about diet for the last three decades.

I've tried it all, and have exercised extensively over the years. (2700 miles on a bike over three summers and barely a dent in my weight.)

Then I read Gary Taubes' book, "Good Calories, Bad Calories". What a revelation that carbs are the culprit, saturated fat isn't proven to be bad, and dieting and exercise don't work real well if you still eat the carbs.

I've lost 25 pounds in two months, with slight setbacks on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Doubt I will ever stop wanting bread, sweets, and pastries, but the realization that I can loose weight without being hungry all the time is a powerful tool.

Not sure about the forum, will need to poke around and figure it out.

-David

Yes, I've read the 2002 version. Trying to stay close to 20 g/day, but I've stalled a little over the holidays because I'm not walking daily, and I have nibbled a little more than I should (nuts and cheese only) at all of the parties. 20 grams adds up fast, so I am also being a little more meticulous in my counting.
I have modified induction a little by expanding the food list, but sticking to the 15-20 gram per day limit.
Thanks for the response.

Welcome David. Sounds like you're well on your way but be careful in modifying induction because it can stall you. A clean induction is best for optimum weight loss. It might be better to move up the rungs now to provide a little variety in your food choices.

Good luck and keep us posted.

That is what I am doing really, moving up the rungs but holding to 20 grams per day.
Thanks

Hi, David

Welcome to ADBB!

If that Modified Induction thing doesn't work out for you, I would strongly advise following Atkins in the traditional manner as outlined in DANDR. I have found that staying at 20g net carbs didn't help me lose better, at all. For me (and a lot of others), the kinds of carbs I eat matter a lot more than trying to stay at or under 20g. Meaning, that I can eat a lot more than 20 and drop weight faster if I get the majority of my carbs from veggies rather than from other sources. Just something to keep in mind...

If you haven't seen this yet, check it out: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-new-read.html (If you are NEW, READ THIS!) I've included the links to some of the most popular spots on the board. You may want to read the "stickies" at the top of the OWL forum - there is some great info there about moving up the rungs.

Isn't the Taubes book great?! Really opened my eyes to the bullsh*t surrounding the lowfat dogma that grips most of the world. I am so lucky that my doctor fully understands the Atkins plan and embraces it 100%.

Good luck!
