Default Doing it again

Hi group,

My name is Scott, and I'm new to this site. 5 1/2 years ago I went on the Atkins diet out of sheer desperation. I was diagnosed with type II diabetes, and was topping the scales at 365 lbs for my 5'9" frame.

After one year I had lost 120 lbs., moved to the big city to take a new job., and got a new dr who told me that I wasn't diabetic...at least not anymore.

With the stress of taking my loved ones to a new location, and starting back up in business on a shoestring budget...I adopted a "cheap" starchy lifestyle.

At 65 lbs from my goal, I not only gave up the lifestyle, but went back up to 320 lbs. (no big surprise)

So I'm back on the Atkins plan now. I'm 40, and a bit worse for the wear, metabolically, and "diabetically" speaking. My medications became ineffective to control my insulin-resistence, and the next step medically is to inject more of the insulin that my body is presently resistent of. I can't imagine dealing with a burning building by opening the windows and airing out the smoke from the rooms....but my Dr. true to her training, has no problem injecting the very thing my body is tired of having too much of....Insulin.

I re-started January 1rst of this year at 320 lbs. and weighed in yesterday at 285 lbs.

A special concern of mine is not only to lose weight, but to keep my blood sugar at a normal level with the diet. I would prefer to be able to drop my diabetic medications(plural), along with my high blood pressure meds, and my cholesterol medications. I intend to again "fix" my condition of diabetes...or insulin resistance....by losing weight, and in the process...keeping my insulin levels low. I've done this before, and my body healed from the disease. I have faith that it can happen again.

Having diabetes seems to have given me a chronically lower metabolism. At least it has been difficult to acheive ketogenesis. Even with almost zero carbs, my blood sugar has had times where it was chronically high, and unfixable even with my oral medications.

As much as I hate to take my blood glucose readings, I've found that observing those readings, along with using ketostix, has given me some insight into what works for me when it comes to staying in my optimal state of ketogenic lypolysis...and losing the fat. Mostly though, it has been the willingness to "mix up" my intake of carbs, and experiment to see what the results would be.

I look forward to losing another 105 lbs. and enjoying not only a lower percent of bodyfat; but enjoying the effects of increased lean body mass, living free from diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. I hope to learn much and contribute to this board.

Pardon my wordy-ness....I think about this alot.

In the Interest of Optimal Health,

Scott

Have you tried eating 6+ smaller meals per day instead of 3?
