Default Hello

Hello everybody.... I found this like many others just searching the net for

atkins high protein low fat foods dishes that are available.

I'm new to this Atkins and I am a skeptic....

but from what I'm reading on the boards it really seems to be effective.

Hope I can be as successful.

Welcome. So what are you skeptical about? It working or not? Just ask away if you wonder about something.
Atkins in not high protein low fat. We eat plenty of fat on Atkins. It is part of the point. Eat fat to lose fat. We keep proteins fairly moderate. And we eat some carbs - starting low and then adding more.
I am sure you can be successful.

If you try to do Atkins as low fat, high protein, you would remain skeptical. Atkins is high fat and moderate protein. Excess protein will be turned to glucose and stored as fat. You get into ketosis in ratio of fat to carbs. In the book, which you couldn't have read, Dr. Atkins tells you not to try to do this as low fat.

It sounds as though you are thinking of Atkins the way the general public does--all bacon, eggs, cheese, big slabs of beef and pork, chased by drinking pure cream and sucking on lard the rest of the day. That is far from the truth. You need to get a book and read how it is really done. If you're not eating your veggies, you're not doing Atkins.

I think losing weight will always have to be a bit difficult because we have to change and give up stuff. It is just the nature of the beast.
I chose to do Atkins because I thought for me this would be the easiest diet to do. I get kind of panicky when I try to eat less and on Atkins we are supposed to eat and snack but yes there were things I had to give up
Now I love it.
I am on rung 9 now - I have been doing Atkins since November 2007. My typical diet would be very different from what a person would eat that is just starting out. A person starting out eats what Atkins called "Induction food" to get you into the game. Now I eat things a beginner should not eat (like yogurt, berries, grapefruit, nuts, oats). But my main foods are still eggs, veggies (plenty of veggies) meat and fish. And tons of water

I went to the induction menu's on the board... and it seems like I've been eating the right things....

eggs and sausage in the morning.....

lunchtime I've been eating the previous nights leftover meats with a salad

and in the even i've been doing what i've always eaten chicken, turkey, lamb, etc.

with salad I just cut out the rice or the potatoes....

the starches basically.

am I on the right track?? I am going to get the book.... to get a better understanding... but in the meantime I don't want to do things the wrong

if it works by following a certain protocol then thats what I want to do.

hi and welcome Frank -- once you learn what you need to eat and have read the book here are some recipe sites you can use to keep from having the same thing over and over - that way you won't get bored and quit before you are at your goal.

The plan does work, but you have to know what you are doing and follow the rules by the letter -- not the way you WANT to do it --- the way the plan was written.

Good luck
