Welcome, Mac. I know what you mean about family members eating the way you used to while you are trying to eat according to plan. Neither my wife or our 2 children are doing this with me...just me. That's also part of why I'm here...for moral support and some accountability. Good luck and stick with it! Sounds like we're starting out at about the same spot. I'm 37 / 5'10" / 230.5 (237 last week). Again, welcome.

Hi Mac Thank you for your service! As for dieting, keep at it! Sometimes, it takes a few false starts before it finally sinks in that you just gotta do it! The junk food is only satisfying for a few minutes.... the results of eating it can last a lifetime.....

Welcome to the board, Mac! Having been a Marine, you are probably very active, so maybe you would like to join an exercise challenge or two. In the 6WEC challenge, you do whatever kind and amount of exercise you want and report in everyday. A new one starts on Sunday. Here's a link: Sign up for #52 6 Week Exercise Challenge Good luck to you!

Hey, Mac, are you my long-lost twin?! I'm 33 going on 34, stand just above 5'9" with a typical weight in the 230s. In very recent months I've managed to kick that up to a whopping 250 pounds, but normally I was in around 234 just like you. I suffered from a major (back) injury years ago and gained a ton of weight; I just haven't yet taken it all off. I've also tried Atkins a couple times, and where you say you haven't made it more than a month: my first attempt was six weeks, the second was three weeks...again we seem to share something in common. Hah, just too weird, eh? Like you, I hope to reach the 180s at the very least, but I'd like to shoot for 175. I (also) just recently joined this bulletin board and began induction on 4/11. I wish I could say I was a service man too, but my list of medical disqualifiers grew bigger than my waistline. I'm still holding out remote hope that if I get my weight under control, get into physical shape that's out of this world, and have a few waivers, that I might still have a crack at the Army since their enlistment age is so high. Ah well, that's another story. I just wanted to say thank you for your service and welcome to the board!
