Default Newbie ready to get serious

Hi everyone,

My name is Oscar and I am very excited to start atkins again. I have let myself go for way too long. When I first did atkins I was 19 years old and 260 pounds. I was in terrible shape and very unhappy with myself. I successfully lost 80 pounds within 6 months and I was in the best shape of my life...waist size 40 to 30-32!!! This was the best period of my life. I was the happiest I had ever been and had so much confidence.

I ended up joining the ARMY and I had to quit atkins durring basic training because...well you can't really choose what you want to eat in the ARMY. Despite all the training and working out...I gained a little bit of unhealthy weight in basic training. I feel most of it was because of the MREs (meals ready to eat)....The first one I ate made me feel sick and bloated. They had over 1k in calories and at least 3-400 carbs!!! We ate 2 a day on a normal day and would eat 1 hot meal ( eggs toast bagel piece or fruit etc.)

The jeans that I wore the day I arrived at the base...fit kinda tight the day I left. Went in at 178 ...left at 205. Once I got to airborne school I had more freedom about what I ate and I quickly dropped back down to 179ish and I was a stud!

Then I was stationed in Italy and as soon as I got off the plane, I realized that my keeping to my diet was going to be very difficult. I couldn't resist pizza, pasta, gelato, etc. Everything had sugar in it EVERYTHING. Once I met my unit,I realized that they were very very strict and demanding. We worked out at least 2 -3 hours a day and weight lifted at least 3 times a week. Despite all of this I still had a hard time maintaining my weight, I was in very good shape, but I noticed that if I didn't watch what I ate I would gain weight quickly.

The battle went on and on until I got out of the ARMY, I got out a healthy 185 in 2006. I was very very happy to be home, I started atkins again, but it was harder this time. I didn't feel as motivated to stick to the diet and I started putting on pounds. I would go on and off atkins and my weight stuck around 200lbs for a while. Then I got an office job and everyone brings doughnuts...cookies...potlucks ...etc.

I looked in the mirror the other day and I was shocked at how much I have changed. I looked at a picture of me at 180 and it hardly looks like me anymore. I am shamefully at about 250 and I feel disgusting about it. I say "about" because I don't even want to get on the scale and look at it.

Starting today April 20th 2009, I am going to do something about it. I have done it before, and I can do it again.
----------
So far today, for breakfast - 3 eggs and w/cheese -
for lunch - 2 peices of chicken breast with feta cheese and lemon juice.
water for today - 1 gal
30 min of cardio tonight
------------

hi and welcome Oscar -- glad you are back on Atkins and ready to get serious!! Make sure you spread your vegetables out through the day -- it will help keep you full longer and puts less of a load on your blood sugar so you'll get into keotsis sooner.

Good luck to you! Here are a few links to refresh your memory and for yummie recipes so you won't get bored with the same old thing. Make sure you are only eating food on the acceptable food list (stay away from the Frankenfood of bars and shakes - they are stallers for some people and have way too many carbs for induction). Learn and follow the rules for induction and you'll be well on your way and loosing in no time.

Thank you so much. I appreciate it. I am so glad I am back on Atkins -
I gotta stay away from those bars and shakes, they seem to be way too much for me durrning the first phase. I gotta eat a few more greens ur probably right.

Good luck, Oscar. Your story is similar to mine with the weight fluctuations. One of my favorite expressions at work is "Just start, the rest is easy." That's how I approach Atkins, and it sounds like you're well on your way...
