Default Starting over

Hi,

I'm Angela or Iza, as many of my friends call me. This is my 2nd time settling in and making a series hardcore drive at Atkins.

My first time around was in July of 2005. I did really well with and lost 135lbs. I was at 323lbs when I started, and 185lbs when my ex-bf moved in with me.

He was at the very least, not helpful in keeping me on track. I guess because he never saw me at 323lbs he felt that there was nothing wrong with my weight and I was being overly critical trying to correct it and working so hard at it.

I wobbled on and off Atkins from 2007 until the beginning of this year. I attempted, at the advice of a friend of mine that is a personal trainer, to do a low calorie diet, even know I knew that I had always been frustrated with them in the past.

I lost an initial 13lbs and slowed down so dramatically that it was nearly offensive to me. I've come to a point where I am no longer willing to struggle through that, no matter what anyone tells me about how unhealthy Atkins is for the long haul. (I've heard it all, as I'm sure many of you have, when I first went on they told me I was crazy, when I lost all the weight they told me that it was soooooo unhealthy for me to do it like that... I guess 323lbs in their minds wasn't as unhealthly???)

I restarted, fresh and clean on induction on Monday April 27th. I'm doing well, but forgot I couldn't have strawberries during induction since it's been so long since I'd done it before. I ate 4 of them today. Went out to a strawberry field and hand picked them. Dang things are so pretty in my kitchen, alas they go to the neighbor tomorrow morning.

I didn't join the board before, or any other support groups for Atkins and low carb living and this time I think I really need some help and support.

If you read all of my intro, thanks for the patience of wadding through it.

Check in soon,
Iza

Hi Iza - welcome! I did read all of your post. Sounds like this time's for real. You're in the right spot...

I'm an introvert, so joining and posting on a message board was kind of foreign to me. This board is hugely responsible/helpful for me staying on track. Check in often, post often, and drink your water!

Again, welcome aboard!

Thank you so much for responding, and trudging through my email!! I am ready to this to be over. I got soooooooooo close to my goal of 165 before, only 20lbs away from it and I let it slip away. I wont be doing that again. At least this time I get to start out a bit closer to it =)

Angela

Hi Iza, we're glad you're here.

The board is full of support, encouragement and advice - its a wonderful place and maybe just the thing you were missing last time. I think almost everyone here has done low cal/low fat/starvation diets before trying Atkins. Now that I know better I know I'll never go back!! There are some links to amazing recipe sites and lots of other fab info - check out the sticky posts - they are a good refresher on 'the rules'.

Welcome!

Welcome to the board, Iza!

Do you have the 2002 edition of the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution? It's a must read because it explains how and why the diet works. It's what we go by here on the board.

I'm glad to hear that you are taking responsibilty for yourself and your health and not letting others try to deter you from doing what you already know is the best diet there is.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

I use to have the book, I gave it to a girl I know that needed it, but I thought I knew what I was doing. Then I think when I wobbled on and off, I forgot the core things and was eating things I wasn't suppose to early on.

I've ordered a new copy of it, hopefully it gets here soon, I just couldn't wait to get in order to start back on the diet.

Welcome Iza, glad you joined. I also "loaned" out my copy of DANDR and never got it back but last week another friend who new I was on Atkins, saw a copy at the second hand store and bought it for me.

first of all CONGRATS on your immense weight loss!!!! You definately showed you can do it!!!

I'm here for the 3rd time around and just joined the board today. I don't have a whole lot to lose (that's relative, because it won't come off and I'm petite)) ,but my age and slowed metabolism is creeping up on me. I'm a very slow loser (14 days in ,lost 4 pounds total) , but I'm ok with it and keep doing as good as I possible can.

Soon, you'll get the hang of things again!!!

Ahh you guys are awesome. I really should have looked into joining the board the first time around. When I did the diet the first time, I was using the OLD book, then I found the new book at a bookstore one day and was like... WOW!
