Default hello newbie here

ok I don't know if I am introducing myself in the right spot... But, I am TIna, I am weighing in at 232lbs. I have about 87lbs. to lose. I have been overweight for about 5 yrs. I used to be a cyclist, and I had surgery on my back, then a hystorectomy, then baldder surgery. I went from 150lbs to 237lbs. My back surgery did not work and I live in pain. I am going in for a different surgery soon. But, I will not let a person touch my body until I am fit again and I have lost all my weight. I am looking for some support, not some ALOT!!! I feel so awful and tired and the weight feels terrible..... I have done Atkins before, I loved it. I felt like a million dollars. So I am so excited to feel better. This time I am going to be careful what foods I add when I am in the mood to eat out of boredom. I had a way of rationalizing alot of food into atkins. This time I am going to stick to the program.....I hope to meet alot of you.......Please write me, Thank you Tina(gotbeef143)

Tina WELCOME to the board!

Just curious, but...

Is there a particular reason you choose to forego surgery, besides your weight? Your post makes it sound as if your preference would be one that includes possibly unnecessary endurance of pain. I question... will the amount of pain you endure inhibit and circumvent your weight loss efforts when it comes to exercise?

Or, are you sufficiently confident you can and are willing to endure, with the knowledge that some improvements will be recognised with the weihgt loss??

No, Back surgery is a slow process in the healing time of things..... My weight is so bad for recovery time....the more fit you are the easier and faster it is to recover after back surgery. I do not want my weight to go higher during recovery. That would be so unhealthy for me. THe last time I had surgery I was up and playing in 2 weeks. This time it is a more serious surgery. So it is very wise to take the weight issue out of the equation. I can walk good and do yoga. also, with careful form I do light weight training. Can you imagine having back surgery and having 90lbs of weight sitting on my disks that I just had repaired. (not good) This is a good choice for me. I will have to be really good with my food......Tina

hi and welcome Tina! I assume you possess and have read the 2002 DANDR book which is the edition we use on this board. If you don't have a copy it is a wise investment. The more you know the easier it is to stay on plan.

Besides the food and exercise make sure you drink at least 64 ounces of pure water daily -- nothing but water counts toward your allowance, tea, coffee, sodas, kool-aid, crystal light - don't count.

Here are some links that may help you get back in the swing of things. Good luck on your journey.
