Default American Doing Atkins in Germany

HI, I am Janette, mother of five and American living in Germany. I am going to try to do Atkins again. I am huge right now, a year after delivery of baby five. It is really hard to do Atkins here because of the German way of life...bread in the morning, bread in the evening. My mother-in-law thinks that potatoes are a major food category and have to be served with every meal. On top of that we cannot get the Atkins foods here, so I am doing it the old fashioned way...without any shakes or anything.
Today is day two for me in induction and I feel a bit yucky. I went shopping before I started and stocked the house with goodies.
I am excited about reading this site. I did not know I needed to measure my salad, for instance...there is a bunch to remember. The last time I was on the diet was 5 years ago and then we moved here and I gave up. It was too hard to battle this culture.
Wish me luck!
Janette in Germany

Hi Janette! I used to live in Germany and I know exactly what you mean about the food.

I have 3 kids and I tend to buy food they will eat that I don't like. Then I buy the stuff I want that is acceptable for Atkins. So, I find stocking up helps me a lot.

Good luck during induction. I had the "flu" during my first week but it didn't last long and I feel so much better now. Take care! Jane

Hi Janette!

The "old fashioned way" is the way Dr. Atkins intended his diet. It is also how we are doing it at ADBB, so you've come to the right place.

Imagine that you're doing great, losing weight, feeling better than ever, thrilled with yourself, hearing compliments from friends and acquaintances---and then it happens! Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!"

Welcome to the board, Janette!

It must be tough finding the right food in Germany but we have alot of people from there on the board so ask around and they can give you store names and brands to buy there.

Good luck to you!

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I just started looking around here and noticed the other Germans. I was so thrilled to find a German site listed here, my poor husband has no clue why I am doing this diet. He can read it in German. I also found websites in Germany that sell things like Pam cooking spray and other Atkins friendly things.
Now, I need to figure out what the OWL levels are and then keep going. I lost my Atkins book in the move over here so I am doing it all by the info here on the net and by memory.
Good luck to everyyone!!
