Default Newbie here 2nd time around on Atkins

Hi All
I'm Sue from the UK, 50 yrs old and back on the Atkins woe. I first started this way of eating in March 2006 and lost 37lbs over the next 18 months. A blood test showed that my cholesterol levels were up so I decided to try a low cal eating plan from Sept 08. Over Christmas and then a holiday in Feb this year I gained almost a stone and felt lethargic and generally bluuuurgh (however you spell it !)

So now here I am back on track and feeling good. I lost 5lbs over the past week or so but now have put on 2lbs despite being on the plan. I think that I am eating in the way that I was at the end of my last attempt i.e. including berries, nuts, yoghurt etc and so have decided to go right back to scratch and do induction again.

I know from experience that I need to have variety and so I'm a vulture for new recipes and ideas for meals. I'm good at planning meals and cooking to ensure that I have something good to look forward to at mealtimes - crustless quiches are a staple for lunch times for me. So I'll be looking around the forum for interesting new ideas and hope to share some of mine as well.

I look forward to sharing my new experience with you all and reading about yours too.

Wish me luck!!!!
Sue

Welcome to the board, Sue! And congrats on your loss so far!

It's a good idea to restart induction to get you off on the right foot.

Be sure to check out the Food and Recipe forum for the variety you seek!

Hi Sue:

Funny thing, I weighed 228 lb when I started the induction but gained 9 pounds afterwards (about two weeks). I'm delighted! Sue, I used to work out like a maniac but university dampened my resolve for the last eight years or so.

Yup, I know most dieters would cringe but at 228 I was ~23.3% body fat. Now I'm down to 21.9% body fat. That's a heluva of a lot of fat loss and an incredible gain of muscle. I'm on cloud nine.

Good luck Sue!
Norman

Thanks Sally, Norman and Nyna for your support. I'm so focused now and will make sure I make regular visits to the board to offer support to others. It makes such a difference when you know that there are others out there who have experienced what you feel when things don't go well and can offer support and advice from their own experiences. The same goes for receiving genuine appreciation of your successes.

Cheers
Sue

hi Sue!! Welcome back to Atkins! I have recipe sites to send you to -- you'll have so much fun (I did) you'll stard cooking up a storm!

Good luck on your journey. Here are links that will help get you started. Make sure you are eating induction recipes only until you are ready to move onto OWL.

Rules of Induction:
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6782
Induction Acceptable Foods List:
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6781

Recipe Sites
http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html
(Never ending induction recipes)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/58513-never-ending-induction-recipes.html
(Induction Recipe Basics--More recipes added)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/6807-induction-recipe-basics-more-recipes-added.html
http://www.sugarfreesheila.com/RecipesPage.html

Exercise is not an option – it is mandatory ….. don’t say you can’t find a way and start today!

Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people. Just remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth!

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
Filtered water
Mineral water
Spring water
Tap water

After your 64 ounces daily you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.
Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases.

Hi Sue, Welcome back to Atkins. We have a lot of folks from across the pond who can help you locate things in your grocer (always a plus) and I look forward to seeing you on the boards. I know this board helps me keep myself accountable and provides a wealth of information.

Wink Re: Newbie here 2nd time around on Atkins

Hi imagood1 and chinadoll,
Many thanks for your responses, recipe links and support. I'm not very good at checking in here regularly - must change that as I always enjoy interracting with others and agree that it helps keep you on track.

I'm so pleased today - after being stuck for a few days the scales showed a loss of 4lbs since Monday - Yippee!!!!

I'm totally focused right now and really planning my meals so I know that I won't be tempted to go off track - especially when the scales show that it's working again. I couldn't work out what I was doing differently from last time I did Atkins and then realised that I took some supplements as mentioned in DANDR - so I went out and got some Chromium, Coenzyme Q10 and L-carnitine as I think have quite a high metabolic resistance - and the scales are moving - might be coincidence but I'll keep it up and see.

Look forward to more chats
Thanks
Sue
