Default Motivated! Love Atkins Diet!

Hi I'm Cathy, I've had a vintage hard copy of the original "Diet Revolution" in my life for 22 yrs. I'm Hypoglycemic. Dr. Atkins has pulled me through countless times in some dark valleys and canyons, during panic attacks and near blackouts.

Hypo runs in my family. I was taught how to cheat and eat sweets on a full stomach (which doesn't work, you get FAT) right after my first major weight loss on this diet when I was 27yrs. I got down into a sz 8 from sz 14! Others around me struggled with their weight. HHHhhmmm...wonder why?! Well, I was taught her cheat habits and joined right in thinking I could eat sweets anyway! I was sabotaged by my own Mom! Well thats another story!

So I have lost on this before, fallen off, and used the principles to feel better when my Hypo has rampaged. The Dr. Atkins' diet and I are in a relationship for life and I don't think I would have made it this long with out it!

I'm now in my 4th week (starting 5th) in ketosis and have not lost lbs, but the inches are just flying off! I went to put on a pair of jeans that were snug... the waist was loose! My fiance tugged at the seat of the pants and we just laughed in amazement! These are Rockie Mountain jeans. We Texans wear'em tight!

I cleared out a pile of career skirts (some I just loved and had trouble letting go of, like my leopard moleskin pencil skirt that I always felt I looked good in! WAH!) and some convention/ evening wear. I will sell them in the classifieds here because some ladies moving down in size may love them and have some use for them.

I still want them really bad like an addict (I'm a clotheshorse), so I've got to get them out of here! I promised myself that if something doesn't fit, it's GONE! I don't want the excuse to go back. I've actually gone and put some of them back on to try to talk myself in to finding a way to keep them... I'm SICK!

It feels great to say "I'm too little for those clothes now!" They were all 18 now I'm fitting in 16, 15/16 and I found a 14 that will work from the dark recesses of my closet!

Today I laid out to tan for the first time this year. We finally have a yard with a privacy fence. I feel like I'm finally getting part of myself back thats been gone along time! EEEEeeeeee! I'm so excited!

Thank you Moomoomu, I know that the lbs. will soon follow as long as my sticks are turning purple on the keto stix.

I want to share a meatloaf recipe that gives me a quick start every time my Hypo kicks in or I start the diet. It may not be 100% 0 carb, but it helps me faze off the carbs in the begining. I usually start turning purple on the stix a few days after it.

You'll need to get disposible 9x15 (?) cake pans that usually come in a pair, one now/next time...the clean up just isn't worth it to me! I set this in a good cake pan for support and use the disposible for a liner!

3 lbs lean ground beef
1 can spam cut up or cubed
1 lrg jar pimentos
1 sm. onion chopped
2 bags cubed cheddar cheese
1 pk bacon
liberal black pepper and garlic salt

Preheat oven for 375. Bake time 1hr 15min, or until bacon crisps some ontop.
Mix all ingredients in the disposible pan except the bacon (that will go across the top and crisp) and pat it down firm so it holds together. Place the bacon on top laying the strips side by side all the way across it.
It will shrink in the oven so don't worry that the pan is full. Roll corners upward and crease corners to a nice point for easy grease pour off.
Check on it frequently and drain off (run really hot water in sink while carefully pouring of greases...won't clog your drain) the grease as it fills (usually about 3 or 4 times).

Tastes great and makes enough for several meals and snacks. I nuke it by the slice as I need it.

Hi welcome
Just a heads up: We use the 2002 book here. It is quite different from the earlier version so you may want to check it out.

That is the cutest lil puffer fish Liv! We used to have some tanks and they were always my favorite fish, they looked like lil submarines and just had the neatest eyes too!

This seems like a great community for support. Thanks for the welcome. I have been seeing that the Great Dr. wrote quite a few books in his career!

I have my old favorite hard copy, also one called Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution copy write 1992 in paper back, and a recipe book of his somewhere in one of our many boxes from last years move. Is the 2002 a reprinting or another completely new book.

I found some new info in the New Diet Revolution, but some forgotten info that was left out from the old favorite hardcover.

I use his basic principles, I don't get fancy and am happily turning purple everyday for 5 weeks in ketosis, burning my fat! Yipeeee! Thanks Dr.A

I stumbled on this site one night looking up facts about Dr. Atkins' death...huge loss for us all. I was inspired by the before and after photos and thought how neat it would be to come here with like minded folks who understand that sugar is recognised by the body no matter what form it comes in : starch, alcohol, fructose, honey! I still after so many years have people who just don't understand about this diet and why I do it.

Welcome to the board, blondegypsy!

Just hang in there and the scale will soon start moving. You really need the 2002 version of the book because it has added more food for variety but it must be eaten as stated to keep the diet working.

Good luck to you!

Say it ain't so Niko772!

HAhaha! I just got that pair a few months ago, I was so embarrassed when my partner was with me and trying to go through the clothing racks asking "what sz are we looking for" then the lil sales clerk that looked to be all of a sz 0 tried to stick her nose into it after already being told "I can find them, thank you.'

I just told him I found them right here, pulled about 4 pair and took what fit in the dressing room, not even bothering trying on much that was still on the rack. I shop alot better with out him there, but it was a Valentines treat so he needed to be there.

Oh, DING DING DING!!!!! 1lb... I say 1lb lost! It finally hit the scale today at 5 weeks! But more exciting I can tell my tummy is feeling less puffy and the unexpected surprise, my saddlebags are slightly smaller this morning. This is something I can feel, guess because they are with me every day! Boy this is weird to talk about! LOL

180/179/130 Yippppeeee I changed my numbers today!

Hi Blueberrylady,

I've a Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution paperback thats pale yellow with aqua print, the " New " is in red print and a 2x1 pic of our favorite DR. on it. Looked for copywrite and came up with 1992.

I have my vintage hard cover copy too, thats been my favorite...its been bedside many a year and pulled me through the Hypo attacks, I practically have it memorized. Both have great info and the books would have been huge if he had combined all the great storys and his own personal journey in both books. Alot of unfortunate editing had to go on. I realize there are a few others aswell that he has written.

I guess I have to be a bit stricter with myself than most folks here. There are alot of foods in the later stages of Atkins Diet Plan in both books that would send me in a downward spiral. After my GTT and the lowblood sugar was discovered my life changed, and Doctors said the steak and salad diet was the best for me...green stuff only skip the white and yellow (turns to sugar and affects my insulin). I love potatos and corn on the cob...really miss them!

At 49yrs, nothing scares me worse than a needle! I'm fortunate never to have had to take medication or do the prick tests to control my insulin! I plan to keep it this way as long as possible. Give me a keto stick and I'm fine with that! LOL

DING! DING! DING! Lost my first lb today! After 5 wks. Most proud of the inches...still turning purple on the keto sticks too! Yipeeeeee!

180/179/130

Keep Happily Turning Purple!!!!!!
