Default Jenny M Introduction

My name is Jenny.

My purpose in being here is to get support and ask questions while I try the atkins diet for the 2 week "induction" period.

I'm going to be turning 30 shortly. 10 years ago I was an avid runner (40-50 miles weekly), I occasionally biked, and of course I went dancing with college roommates on weekends. My stress levels appear to have been quite a bit lower then as well. But, even despite trying to implement running again and trying hard to diet now, I am not losing weight. And quite frankly, I'm not sure running is really the best workout for me now. I think it may be too hard on my joints and I'd love to be able to walk later in life without hip problems.

But I am more than 20 lbs heavier than I was just 10 years ago. It may not seem a lot but for a petite girl these extra 20+ lbs are very distressing. I feel very fat. I have low energy and anxiety. My face is very round. My stomach regularly cramps. I took the sugar test in the book and I exhibit a lot of the reactions. When I spoke to my physician she's not concerned as I work in a high stress job and I still qualify in the under 25 BMI range and my A1C level is normal.

I came across the New Diet Revolution book at work after a coworker found it to be useless. I've read a lot of books on diet and nutrition this year (in an attempt to figure out what my problem might be)and the low carb approach makes sense. I do think the white sugars must be the root of a lot of our society's health problems for kids and adults. So I'm willing to give it a try for 2 weeks and see how I feel and look at that time.

I hope this is a sufficient introduction. Thanks in advance to all of you that moderate and support the boards here.

Jenny

welcome always nice to have new people

remmber to learn as much as you can about the Atkins diet all to often people try it with out knowing much about it and then feel tired and crappy and then think the diet is bad xD

it takes your bodys metabolism a while to switch from a glucose burning metabolism to a natural fat burning metabolism so thats why theres the induction flu people call it at the start of the diet so it can take 14 days to get over it but other ppl are faster and take only like 7 days but some people are slow and take 3 weeks

heres some tips to help speed up the metabolism change so you start feeling great

eat around 65-75% fat 20-30% protein 5% carbs (20 net carbs)

eating high fat low carb helps switch the body to a fat burning metabolism

also remmber to drink extra extra water when starting the diet and loseing weight

Welcome Jenny!!

I started Atkins today and I have about 20 - 25lbs to lose. If we stick to the book I'm sure we'll succeed no problem

I wish you the best of luck in attaining your goals. The community here on this board looks to be a very helpful, knowledgable and extremely friendly one which is a big plus

Welcome to the board, Jenny!

I think you'll find that giving up the sugar makes a big difference in how you feel and how much you lose! Since you don't have a lot to lose, it may take awhile because it's those last few pounds that are hardest to get rid of, but stick to the plan and it will happen!

Good luck to you!

hi Jenny - lucky for you your coworker found HER version of Atkins worthless because the plan does work and there are plenty of us here who are proof of that. This is more than a quick fix "diet" - this is a lifetime plan - follow the plan by the letter and give it more than 2 weeks and you may be very surprised at your results.

Good luck to you
