| Hi Dave, You get three cups total each day. You can have two cups of any combination of those listed as salad vegetables. You may eat three cups from this list, or... You can add a cup of the vegetables from the second list. The total makes up your three cups. Yes, there are some veggies with which you may not be familiar. Some are exotic veggies and some are listed by a name you may not know such as eggplant=aubergine or zucchini-=courgette. During the first two weeks you may not have anything not listed as OK for Induction. You may have up to three ounces of cheese a day, and heavy cream in your tea (no milk). You may have up to three servings of sweeteners per day. You should drink at least 64 ounces of pure water each day. A sample day for me in Induction would be BREAKFAST two eggs, scrambled and 2 slices of bacon or a piece of crustless quiche LUNCH large salad with 1.5 cups of lettuce, cucumber, pepper, or whatever a sliced hard boiled egg, 1 can of tuna drained and oil and vinegar dressing SNACK deviled eggs or an ounce or so of cheese. If really hungry then a chicken leg DINNER 6-8 ounces of a meat, one cup of green beans or broccoli with butter and cheese, and another salad The Rules of Induction can be found here: What are the Rules of Induction? The Induction Acceptable Foods List can be found here: What foods can be eaten on Induction? |

| hi Dave -- welcome to ADBB!! I'm so happy your doctor recommended this WOE to you. Exercise may be a challenge but I''m sure there is something you can find that will help you. Be sure you drink plenty of water (at least 64 ounces) daily - this helps flush out the nasties from your system. You are going to have to learn to measure things until you get use to proper portions (it won't take long!). To begin with eat plenty of fats to keep from getting hungry - mayo is a great dip for everything and cream cheese (watch your amounts daily) make things taste good. Jill explained the veggies already so I don't go into that. Here are some links I like to send that helped me when I first started. If you need anything all you have to do is ask! Good luck to you! Rules of Induction: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6782 Induction Acceptable Foods List: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6781 Recipe Sites http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html (Never ending induction recipes)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/58513-never-ending-induction-recipes.html (Induction Recipe Basics--More recipes added)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/6807-induction-recipe-basics-more-recipes-added.html http://www.sugarfreesheila.com/RecipesPage.html Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people. Just remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth! This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area: Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including: Filtered water Mineral water Spring water Tap water Additionally (after your 64 ounces daily), you can have the following: Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label) Club soda Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content) Decaffeinated coffee or tea* Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss) Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame) Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added) Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons *Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine. Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases

| Dave - how long have you been on Atkins? You can probably continue with the information you now have instead of restarting Atkins. I'm glad you are understanding the veggies better - look over the recipe links, there are some wonderful foods to make! Check out the stuffed green peppers - they are one of my favorite foods. Like I said before, if you need anything just ask!

| Dave, you have actually been doing a stricter version than you need so I would just start adding in the veggies and go from there. If you feel like you need to make a clean start for the full two weeks, that's fine, but from an Induction standpoint, you are already in ketosis so you would also be okay just moving on from here. |

| great thanks for the support, can i ask if i only fancy just two meals a day say a small rib of pork and a bit of salad and two eggs is that ok as it states i have to have at least 3 meals a day, but some times esp if its hot like today i only fancied the two meals and did as much working out as i can? water is not a problem as i am finding it helps with the fullness feelings. |

| I think Atkins wrote that you're not supposed to go more than 6 hours between meals during the day. How about something easy like a soft boiled egg as a mini-meal/snack? Or some cream cheese on a celery stalk. Sometimes hot weather makes me lose my appetite, too. And best of luck with your new program. I'm sure you'll find this way of eating very satisfying. |
