Post Ready Set GO!! NOOB Here! My Story.

Hey guys (& Gals)
So this is the start of my weight loss journey. I am terrified!!! Not of the life change that's ahead of me, but of failure. I refuse to fail again.
A little about me:
I am 26 years old and married to the greatest guy ever! I have always been on the plus size team but never this BIG. In High school I was a size 14 but extremely active. I was on the volleyball team, Softball. My excuse was that I was Big Boned. lol Fast forward to college I ballooned up to an 18, wasn't involved in sports, just school and parties. I was working at a Subway restaurant when I shattered my ankle. I have had 5 operations on it and enough hardware to build an airplane. During the years following my injury I was confined to chairs and crutches and no activity at all. I ballooned to a whopping 327 lbs and a size 28. I feel so sick when I look at pictures of me. Its depressing.

I am ready now. I did Atkins back in 2004 for 2 months and lost 40 lbs. I had so much going on at the time that I stopped and gained back all 40 lbs plus more. This time feels different for me. I have never felt so motivated, My husband is being so awesome about it and is going to do Atkins as well. I am going back home (to Arizona) for Christmas this year and by that time I will have not seen my Family for over a year. I want to be down at the very least 75 pounds but 100 would be even better.

So glad I found this website. Such a great network of support.

Welcome back to the low carb way of living, the great thing is that you can get a lot of good support here, we are all pretty much in the same boat, trying to lose the pounds and keeping them off. I was shocked when I weighed myself in January and I was well over 300 lbs!!! First I went on a "normal" diet- cut out the sweets, was eating whole grain food, etc, and that went well until I got down to 275 and then I hit a brick wall. Right after Easter, I swapped to Atkins and within 1 week I had lost 10 lbs, and I've lost 10 more since then. The road is long, but pain is worth it!!!! Good luck to you and I know you can do this, just keep focused.
Rock on!!!!

We have all been in the place you are today and are here to help with whatever you need. One of the best things you can do is purchase the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book (DANDR) – if you can’t find one locally www.half.com and www.Amazon.com have them pretty inexpensively.

A lot of us use www.fitday.com to record and keep track of our daily food intake. We track new carbs (fiber - total carbs = net carbs) - 20 per day max on induction. Check the acceptable food list and eat only food on that list (nothing else). Here are links that will help get you started. Make sure you are eating induction recipes only until you are ready to move onto OWL.
Exercise is not an option – it is mandatory ….. don’t say you can’t find a way and start today! Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people. Just remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth!

Rules of Induction:
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6782
Induction Acceptable Foods List:

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
Filtered water
Mineral water
Spring water
Tap water

After your 64 ounces daily you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.

Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases

Thanks for all the kind words and help!! I am so excited to see some results. My husband and I just booked our honeymoon. We never got to take one when we got married. 7 day cruise in Hawaii next April. I hope to be down at least 80lbs by then if not more.

Hi Bazzgurl26:

80 lb. by next April? If you do the AD correctly and exercise, Don't be surprised if you drop over 100 lb. In fact, don't be surprise if you are close to your goal. The key is exercise, both aerobically and anaerobically.

Cheers,
Norman
