Smile New to the board...not Atkins

I was first introduced to Atkins over 5 years ago when I was able to drop 25lbs, felt great, then got pregnant with our third child so that was out the window. Tried it again last summer and dropped 15lbs and lost will power to stick to the diet when a family picnic came up, it was a huge to do, there were nearly 80 of us there! Tried it again this past January when I took a vacation to Vegas and dropped 10lbs but when vacation was over so was diet..oops. So with summer here again and me not feeling my healthiest I started Atkins a few weeks ago and have dropped about 17lbs and am looking for some extra tips and just a way to give my Atkins diet a boost of energy that seems to be lagging lately. With the family picnic coming up next month I am trying to find a way to enjoy it without going off it completely like last summer, that and my bestfriend is slamming my diet every chance she gets which is making things difficult. She is a weight watchers fan and flat out told me that people on the low carb diets gain back the weight, I was irritated but said nothing. Since last summer, with the help of Atkins, I am now 35lbs lighter and feeling pretty good. Having a best friend that is not a big support is kind of a drag so I guess I am here reaching out for that help and support that is much needed. So far I have found some great recipies, read some great stories and gotten some good tips to give my Atkins diet that shot of energy that I need. Thanks much, I'll definately be around!! - Maria

Some folks find the addition of coconut oil helps with energy. I find that with 60- 65% fat in the diet I am never short of energy. If your diet is too low in fat that could be why you feel worn down. Why not post a menu in our Review My Menu forum and have us take a look.

when you go to the family reunion take foods that you can eat without being off plan. Check the recipe sites and find good things you can take as side dishes....deviled eggs are always a crowd pleaser and legal. In place of potatoes put cooked cauliflower in "potato salad" -- just think of the dishes you normally eat in a different light. Good luck to you.
