SLIM QUEST is on a distinguished road
Cool Atkins, I'm back to Stay!!! "SLIM QUEST"

Hello everyone, I am SLIM QUEST a new member here... I started on my controlled carb life style about 5 years ago when I weighed in at 475 lbs... I was in bad shape with very bad type 2 diabetes, hospitalized for infection to my leg due to the diabetes, fever, blood pressure through the roof, heart palpitations, anxiety and couldn't walk from the house to the mail box without having to stop several times to catch my breath and stop the pain in my back, legs and feet... the mail box was only 5 feet away... My Dad and his brother both passed away from compliations of diabetes, heart disease and strokes... that was my wake up call... I read DANDR, Sugar Busters and started on my new low carb life style... over the past 5 years I have lost and gained 100's of pounds and at my lowest weight which was about 2 years ago I was 340 lbs. my goal weight is 225 lbs. I gained 100 lbs back over a year pereiod and weighed in at 440 lbs. I have now been on a controlled carb diet for the last year and have dropped back down to 380 lbs and have been fighting up and down with 10 lbs for the past 6 months. I am tired of playing this game and want to do this once and for all... I have read the book again and listen to the DANDR cd and have started for the last time... I am motivated and determined to lose the weight and surpass my goal of 225 lbs... I am looking for guidance, inspiration, direction and wanted to find others that have gone before me that have reached their goals... and others that are in my situation try to meet the ultimate goal... thank you for your support and I look forward to reading, participating and contributing to these boards so we can all learn together and shatter our goals... thanks again,,, SLIM QUEST Day One

hi and welcome back Slim Quest --- check the Century Club and the STAC (Second Time Around Club) -- both are great places to get extra support from people who are in the same boat you are.

I'm so glad you've read the book -- that's the best thing you can do before starting back on Atkins. Here is some information from around the board and the book to refresh your memory.

Good luck -- if you need anything all you have to do is ask.

Exercise is not an option – it is mandatory ….. don’t say you can’t - start today! Most of us aren’t active before Atkins – but once you get going you’ll find it’s so easy to carve out some time each day to walk, run, swim find something you like and just do it! Leg lifts or using cans as weights for arm curls, dancing around the room or water exercise - it all counts and it's a way to get started.

Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people – you can use them further up the Rungs but not to begin with. Also remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth!

Here is a thread that will give you loads of information to be able to follow the plan correctly. (BEFORE you begin the Atkins Nutritional Approach...)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-approach.html (BEFORE you begin the Atkins Nutritional Approach...)

Here is a little more information you'll need:

www.fitday.com get a free membership and track your daily food intake. Track NET CARBS daily … and also use the journal, for your daily moods, etc….it’s a great tool to help you.

Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
Filtered water
Mineral water
Spring water
Tap water

Crystal Lite, sugar free drinks of any kind are not acceptable – PURE water is the only thing that count toward your daily water intake.

After your 64 ounces you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (causes weight stall in many people)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons
*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.
Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases

Good luck on your journey.

Welcome Slimquest. The trick for those of us that slip is to look at it like alcoholism--we can never not be vigilant. It will be an every day fight for the rest of our lives, but Atkins isn't a prison sentence it gives us lots of choice and lots of food. Here's to doing this for the last time.
