Hello all!!

I "did Atkins" back in High School with amazing results. But over the years partying and depression got the best of me and I ballooned up to 270lbs. I'm 5'10", so needless to say, when I finally saw a picture of myself at a family Christmas three years ago I knew something had to change. I did the starvation diet, went to therapy, started going to churcha again and I got down to 230lbs. Don't worry, I know the starvation thing is HORRIBLE, and I wanted a quick fix, and now it seems to have really screwed me up because it is REALLY tough to lose weight. I gained about 10lbs back in the last 2 years or so, and now I want to get back under 200lbs. At my height and body build I would be happy with that. I used to be a swimmer so I have some major muscle mass and I don't want to be "skinny". It helps that my fiance likes my size. But I don't want to be tired all the time. I want my clothes to fit me better. I want to be able to wear size 14 again. I'm in 18s now and they are relatively snug. A comfy 14 would be perfect. I'm happy and motivated. I can do this. It helps that I LOVE chicken ceasar salad. I'm doing this to feel better, not to be skinny. Because if that is my motivation, this just won't work.

Welcome to the boards The first two weeks are the toughest (but not as tough as starvation!). It only gets easier from there!

Meat is good. I agree. But it is not all we eat. And now that I have been doing it for a while I think my meat consumption is fairly normal.
Metabolism can be tricky - just be patient and things will work out.
Did you follow Atkins 2002 in High School? It is the one we use here.

hi and welcome -- glad you found us. Since you've done Atkins before you should go to the STAC area (Second Time Around Club) - they give each other extra support to keep on track.

Check the stickies (information posts) at the top of this page Atkins Diet 14-day Induction - Atkins Diet

Make sure you drink at least 64 ounces of water daily (nothing added - just water) - exercise starting today and take a good supplement daily. Don't cheat yourself or the plan - it was written specifically to help us loose weight, there are no shortcuts to get to your goal, it will take time and work - good luck!! We follow the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) - get a copy to give yourself the edge to win your weight loss fight.

Check the recipe sites also - they are very helpful and will help make your meals so much more enjoyable.

Hi Amanda. As hard as it seems right now it gets worse as you get older. Good for you for taking charge of this now. You won't get the results you want unless you do a clean Induction so be sure to read the stickies in the Induction section if you don't have the 2002 book. And do get the book and read it. I know we sound like a broken record but it really does make a huge difference if you understand the process and it also gets your head into the WOE.
