Anything you do will give you at first rapid results. Try walking at a moderate pace and increase the duration, frequency and distance gradually. But first, and this is very important, check with your doctor and have it Okayed by him first. You are considerably over weight but with a bit of discipline, you will make dramatic and significant changes in your physique and health.

| Find something you are comfortable doing and enjoy -- that way you will be more apt to stick with it.

| I weigh more than you, and I'm a woman (probably shorter), and I know how hard it is to exercise. I agree with others that say check with your doctor. After that, I admit I find the "walk for 30 mins a day to begin" things (often found in magazines, etc.) a bit crazy. I can't do that yet. I work at home on the computer from 8am to midnight. Every hour on the hour I stand up and march in place or dance a bit for 3 minutes. Sounds a bit silly, perhaps, but at least it's activity. I also do light weights while sitting down. Walking outside is the next step.

| i would get a doctor checkup and ask the doctor if you can start with 30 mins walking every day and walking in a pool to help joints. I was 337 so I have an idea of what you are going through.. Best of luck.

| I had knee, back and ankle problems when I started Atkins, not to mention I couldn't breathe well enough to sustain much in the way of exercise. I talked to my doctor and had an EKG and blood profile. He told me to listen to my body. So, I began to exercise seated working my way to moving my feet and legs. I could walk a little further every time I tried. I danced as I did housework. I got bold and visited a swimming pool in our community. We have a pool here but I can only swim during the warmest weather because it isn't heated. The community pool was great ... people stared at first but were very accepting and supportive. I just jogged in place in the pool or I swam laps. Miraculously, I now work out at a gym in our community. I'm committed to work out at least four to five times a week and I do. I see some of the people who also work out in the gym around town ... many are body builders, athletes, coaches, law enforcement. My husband is always slightly surprised how friendly and outgoing they are with me, but they know we all have similar goals ... to be healthy. My point in this discussion is that it starts out and just let it snowball. Let your success keep you motivated. But I do agree, start out with a big "go for it" from your physician. Best wishes.

| If you are already walking at a good fast pace then I would add weight training next. Nothing changes your body (especially guys) as quickly as resistance training and you can see yourself get stronger from week to week. A gym is best but a couple sets of dumbbells will also work. DO get a book or training guide and start with light weights and do them with good form so you don't injure yourself. |
