curlysue is on a distinguished road
Default Hi

Just a quick hello...I am new to the bulletin board but would like to say that I am a one time success of Atkins in the past (about 10 yrs ago) but went back to my old ways, gained back my weight and then some, and now that I am 10 yrs older, am nervous about starting this program again. (the no carb foods have already been purchased)and I start 1st thing tomorrow...what are my fears?? That the cravings I will surely be having may win or that my 40-something metobolism wont let me drop any weight..
Anyone out there willing to send me a pep talk or two??

Hi and welcome back -- check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support. Check the stickies at the top of the induction forum to refresh your memory on the plan. (BEFORE you begin the Atkins Nutritional Approach...)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/5781-before-you-begin-atkins-nutritional-approach.html. There is nothing to fear - eat the foods, exercise, drink 64oz pure water a day & you'll do fine.

Don't compare what happened 10 years ago to now -- your body & your lifestyle are different. If you follow the plan as it is written you should have no problem loosing the weight you want to. You don't give any stats so I don't have much info on you -- but check the acceptable food list - if a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food don’t eat it.

Look at the ingredients list of everything at the grocery store and check the ingredients against the acceptable food list -- just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. We count "net carbs" not whole carbs (carb minus fiber = net carbs). Keep track of your carbs on Fitday so you'll know where you are from day to day.

Also, the recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

Hope this helps -- if you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck.

You will lose, curly, but it will be slower going in your forties. No reason to be nervous--it is more important to be patient. Do read the 2002 book and really understand the process and don't expect your losses to be linear--they will probably bounce around. There are a lot of us 40s somethings here and Atkins will still work for you too!

Hey CS, You have just gotten a pep talk from two of the best! I'm a second timer on the third week of induction; it has been a wonderful three weeks and you have come to the right place for information and support. You won't believe the energy level after a few days. One change for me; I have found exercise to be a critical component in the start of my recovery from obesity.

I wish you well. Let us know how you progress, okay?
