Unhappy desperate

hi there, i have been reading everybodies messages and feel really good that i have decided to do the atkins diet but, i am really upset. i am on my 5th day of the induction now and i had lost 2 pounds but have now put it on, i just do not understand why. i am absoloutely devastated and do not understand why i am not losing weight i am doing everything properly. the only thing that may be stopping me is that i eat mayo with every meal and i put swweetex in my water so i can drink it. if anyone knows please can you let me know. i have alot of weight to loose and am desperate to loose it (.

Welcome to ADBB.

What are your stats? Height, current weight, goal weight.

Could you post one or two menus you had since starting Atkins, including quantities for everything?

What's "swweetex"? You need at least 64 oz of pure water daily, not sweetened stuff (I guess "swweetex" is some artificial sugary stuff).

Are you exercising?

In any case, weight fluctuations are perfectly normal. You can gain 2 lbs today and lose 4 lbs in the next two. If the number on the scale bothers you, weigh only at the end of the first week or at the end of your 14-day Induction. And don't forget to take body measurements too.

Unhappy Re: desperate

hi thanks for the reply, but i have put on the 2 lbs that i lost, 7th day in and i have lost nothing, i have now stopped taking sweetener as i think too much of it must stop weightloss, and the mayo which has sugar in it so i have stopped having that as well, so i dont know if now i have to wait a few days before i see any results but i am really getting upset as i am following the rules and seeing no results.

If you post your menu (incl. quantities), we might be able to make some suggestions. Without a menu, we can only guess.

hiya,

i eat, smoked salmon, salmon cooked in butter, chicken grilled or fried or roasted. i do like my cheese. i try to weigh it most days so i dont go over. i have fried, poached, boiled or scrambled eggs for breakfast. i have ham, bacon not too much of it though. i eat smoked or unsmoked mackerel, also canned makerel, anchovies, tuna. Prawns cooked in butter, garlic. i have lettuce and a few baby tomatoes, cooked mushrooms in butter. i fry onions. i weight it out as said in the dr atkins new diet cookbook, 120g of salad and 150g of cooked veg. i put olive oil and viniger on my salad. i drink my water i have only 1 cup of coffee now with 1 sweetener and 1 tbs of single cream. i just dont know what else to do, i am really depressed about the situation, why am i not losing weight i cant carry on like this. i am so heart broken i cant explain. i am obviously doing something wrong but i dont no what.

Welcome to the board!

I see you're eating a lot of salty foods so maybe you're problem is water retention. Try cutting back on the cured meats.

Good luck to you!

Wait, wait, wait... You are going by "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Cookbook"? The book dealing specifically with the Atkins Diet is DANDR, not the cookbook. Make yourself a present and buy "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution", ed. 2002. Follow the rules in DANDR, because those are the ones you need to follow.

The "120 g of salad & 150 g of cooked veg" idea is, I assume, an error done by the British editor, plus it is based on the rules in DANDR 1992. Dr. Atkins measured Induction veggies in DANDR in cups, not grams. For Induction you are supposed to eat 3 cups of vegetables per day --- either 3 cups of salad vegetables or 2 cups of salad veggies and 1 cup of veggies from the "Other Vegetables" list. All vegetables should be measured raw. The lists are part of the acceptable foods list: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)

You can transform between cups and grams using this list: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...p-measure.html (Weight of vegetables per cup measure)

And while you look for the right book, check this thread: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...tion-faqs.html (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)

If you are not doing this already, start tracking your foods in FitDay. Then you can share the link to your FitDay when you want someone to review your menu.

I forgot to ask... Did you lose any inches? Take measurements too, don't go exclusively by the scale.
