Default Hello to all

Hi

I have just started Atkins again after a 3 year lapse. I know why this has happened - having lost both my parent, my marriage broke up and 2 close family members are struggling with serious cancer. I just stopped looking after myself and now I weigh more than I ever have and hate how I feel and look.
I did lose a lot on Atkins 5 years ago and know it works, but I guess I have to really want to take care of myself again.
I run my own business providing strategic advice as well as being on a number of boards.

Hello Yerrin,

I see you said "struggling" so wanted to post quickly before signing off and say that I hope I log on tomorrow night and find you had a GREAT DAY.

You said you gave strategic advice to clients....role play as one of your clients and then advise yourself of the benefits of doing this.

You sound very smart, so you know the longer you put this change of life off, the harder and harder and harder it's going to be.

You can do this.

Talk to you tomorrow,
Suzanne

HAving joined the site and read a few threads I have already worked out that I have been having aspartame without knowing it - maybe why it has been so slow with no change in week one. I was taking Metamucil for fibre - but it has aspartame, as does the Tylers Lite drink flavoring. As both were 0 carbs I thought they were OK - but the apartame got me.

I will stop them and see what happens.

This is a great site

Hi and welcome to ADBB Yerrin.

We follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) it would be a helpful for you to have a copy of the book to refer to. At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html

Make a copy of this list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

It sounds like you are one of the people who aspartame slows the weight loss so it's good you figured it out and have gotten rid of it. Like it says above, just because a food says "low fat or low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it -- check the ingredients - the Tylers Lite drink mix is made of mostly chemicals and aspartame...nothing wholesome in it. You should be drinking a minimum of 64 ounces of PURE water (nothing added) daily - that, along with the proper foods will get your weight loss going. Also, make sure you are taking a good multivitamin daily -- Metamucil should only be used for constipation -- your vegetables should provide you with enough fiber daily - make sure you are eating 1 cup from the "other" vegetable list - they are higher fiber vegetables.

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

Thanks Carole

This seems to be an incredibly helpful and supportive site - glad I have found it this time.

I agree staying with natural is the safer way to go

Christine

Glad you came back to visit. I hope you have a great day advising clients and yourself.

I would try to cut out everything but water. My Dad has been doing Atkins WOL for 11 years now (240 sw to 190) and told me the one thing he would change if he could do it over was the "diet" sodas and crystal light. He didn't drink sodas before but starting using these everytime he had a craving for anything and (1) he thinks it made the cravings worse, and (2) the artificial sweeteners made him feel worse and gave him headaches.

After 6 weeks of feeling bad and the headaches, someone told him to cut out the diet stuff and within 12 hours he said he felt like a superhero and hasn't ever touched the artificial stuff again.

Good luck today!
