Default Sugar addict on death row

I have a brutal sugar addiction.

Everyday of my life has started with around 1000 or more calories of cookies, donuts, pastries, etc, complete with a giant latte, for at least 10 years.

Here is a photo taken of me 15 minutes to 2 hours afterwards:
and that's what I look like for the rest of the day.

I bought a blood sugar monitor to do some self testing and proved what I already knew: I have become heavily insulin resistant / diabetic.

I've hit 330 pounds, have severe sleep apnea, low testosterone, debilitating fatigue, and I'm completely miserable.

I'm on testosterone injections for 2 months and that's been somewhat helpful but comes with its own set of side effects especially for someone obese.

Everyday I obsess all day long over the fact that I'm literally dying, miserable, hideous, yet seem to be incapable of doing anything about it.

I tried atkins with some success 3 years ago, got down well under 300 but felt AWFUL the whole time, was always dizzy and dehydrated, and it felt like I had thrush on my tongue or something.

I couldn't handle the sick feeling, went off, slowly regained all the weight...
in retrospect the smart thing to do would have been to just switch to an OGWL that didn't make me feel ill but I have tremendous impatience.

I'm trying to begin low carb seriously and take control of my health, my weight, and my looks, and I'm attempting to start induction today.

My biggest problem with losing weight is that I feel like something should be happening every second of the day, while I'm sitting here typing I should be losing a pound or else its all for nothing.

I dont have the skills to place my diet into the background of my life for months and ignore it rather than sitting there anticipating nonsensical results all day long.

I've read a fair amount of this board and saw several people doing induction for a 2nd or 3rd time who felt fine or even better than normal, I would be grateful to be so lucky.

Are there rules on this board about food can be discussed and when/where? For instance is posting "I want a mcgriddle the size of my head" permitted?

Sorry for the rambling nature of this introduction, but it's becoming too long so I think I'll just cut it off there.

Hopefully I will be around on this board to share dropping 100lbs with it, I will probably be posting frustrations and asking for advice.

Meat

I think there are alot of people that can relate to the sugar addiction. It's one day at a time. I'm not sure why you felt bad on the plan last time, can you post what you would normally eat?

I find that I feel best eating this way, I have more energy and am less apt to crave anything that I shouldn't be eating. It's not easy, it never will be but at least it gives me an advantage.

The first few days, sometimes the first week, can be hard, but it does get easier!

I hope you post often! Post a menu and people can help you out!!

You can do this - it's important for your health!

I absolutely despise cooking so I'm trying not to get overwhelmed with menus and whatnot.

So far today I've had a can of sardines and 3/4th of a pound of salmon with 3 eggs and frozen spinach all mixed together ( an omelette is too much trouble for me - not joking, lol, so i just mix it all together in the pan )

I let 2000mg l-glutamine powder dissolve on my tonue and took 200mg of chromium piccolate before breakfast.

Right now I'm obsessing over a craving for peanut butter and chocolate... I'm trying to rationalize buying a jar of natural peanut butter and an endangered species panther bar 88% cocoa w/ 12g sugar per bar, and putting 2 tablespoons on the bar as a least-worst-option way to get me through the first day.

But that isn't very inductiony...

I honestly don't remember what my old menu was. the usual... fish, chicken, beef... some permitted veggies, etc.

Hey Meat,

I know exactly what you're going through. I think there is a sectioin about insulin resistance in the book and on this site.

You don't have to cook, buy $1 burgers and eat them without the buns, if you have Jack in the Box, I get a couple of sausage breakfast jacks and eat without the buns too. We have Bill Miller's BBQ, and I'll buy a whole chicken and that will serve me like for 3 or 4 meals. You can buy sausages like Kiolbassa's or something, and just nuke them. Boil eggs for a quick snack and to put in tuna with mayo. There are lots of things you can do.

Check out the dessert section, there is an awesome cheesecake pudding (no cooking involved) and other simple items for your sweet tooth. As you stay on the program, your sweet tooth will deminish.

You will feel crappy for a few days, but it will pass and slowly you will notice that your still tired, but not AS tired as usual. That is how I was feeling. Make sure to read the book and keep coming to the board for help.

Look at some of the success stories and picture forums...

Stay in touch. Here is something that might help... you may want to read the post from the beginning... it's about a chocoholic...

Hello, meat! Ah, I feel your pain ... sugar is such an enticing drug. But so not worth the after effects, as you already know. While your body is making the transition from sugar-loaded to sugar-free, it will be an adjustment. A HUGE help is checking in here, daily. I didn't do it for awhile and gained back some weight and felt like crap. This forum is an enormous aid in staying with the program. I can't stress that enough. Everyone here is in the same boat ... you are never alone at ADBB! So take advantage of that. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE ! So don't be a stranger and come here if you are having a problem ... there's always someone willing to listen and help.

thanks for the help nancymo, I actually read the atkins book a long time ago and I'm familiar with insulin resistance, gary taubes work, etc.

I fit every single characteristic of insulin resistance and sugar addiction with many of the co-morbidities (very low ldl, high triglycerides, apnea, etc)

unfortunately for me "knowing" has not translated to "doing"

instead i'll sit there double fisting double-chocolate milkshakes thinking about how im poisoning myself

it's so bizarre because if I had cancer, I would go through chemo, radiation, surgery, whatever other hellish medicine was available to me, but this is like having a curable cancer, a VERY simple cure. all i have to do to cure my disease, is to eat different stuff.. so why don't I?

addictions are stubborn things.

Get on plan 100% -- the sugar addiction will take care of itself....we've all been there -- and we're doing fine now. Good luck to you.

Meat, I'm so glad you read it. I read it myself and I WROTE it (maybe it was the healthier - thinner Nancy Mo writing it to encourage the current Nancy Mo!). Anyway, believe me the sugar cravings will pass, then your hunger will diminish too.

Hey, you need to post your stats and throw yourself into this community, it really helps that we can watch each other's back for support or a kick in the seat!!!

Keep track of your measurements too, not just your weight, because sometimes the inches come off without the weight. I'd love to be a size 10 even if my weight remains the same!
