| Meat I think there are alot of people that can relate to the sugar addiction. It's one day at a time. I'm not sure why you felt bad on the plan last time, can you post what you would normally eat? I find that I feel best eating this way, I have more energy and am less apt to crave anything that I shouldn't be eating. It's not easy, it never will be but at least it gives me an advantage. The first few days, sometimes the first week, can be hard, but it does get easier! I hope you post often! Post a menu and people can help you out!! You can do this - it's important for your health! | I absolutely despise cooking so I'm trying not to get overwhelmed with menus and whatnot. So far today I've had a can of sardines and 3/4th of a pound of salmon with 3 eggs and frozen spinach all mixed together ( an omelette is too much trouble for me - not joking, lol, so i just mix it all together in the pan )I let 2000mg l-glutamine powder dissolve on my tonue and took 200mg of chromium piccolate before breakfast. Right now I'm obsessing over a craving for peanut butter and chocolate... I'm trying to rationalize buying a jar of natural peanut butter and an endangered species panther bar 88% cocoa w/ 12g sugar per bar, and putting 2 tablespoons on the bar as a least-worst-option way to get me through the first day. But that isn't very inductiony... I honestly don't remember what my old menu was. the usual... fish, chicken, beef... some permitted veggies, etc. |

| Hey Meat, I know exactly what you're going through. I think there is a sectioin about insulin resistance in the book and on this site. You don't have to cook, buy $1 burgers and eat them without the buns, if you have Jack in the Box, I get a couple of sausage breakfast jacks and eat without the buns too. We have Bill Miller's BBQ, and I'll buy a whole chicken and that will serve me like for 3 or 4 meals. You can buy sausages like Kiolbassa's or something, and just nuke them. Boil eggs for a quick snack and to put in tuna with mayo. There are lots of things you can do. Check out the dessert section, there is an awesome cheesecake pudding (no cooking involved) and other simple items for your sweet tooth. As you stay on the program, your sweet tooth will deminish. You will feel crappy for a few days, but it will pass and slowly you will notice that your still tired, but not AS tired as usual. That is how I was feeling. Make sure to read the book and keep coming to the board for help. Look at some of the success stories and picture forums... Stay in touch. Here is something that might help... you may want to read the post from the beginning... it's about a chocoholic... http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...40-post17.html |

| Hello, meat! Ah, I feel your pain ... sugar is such an enticing drug. But so not worth the after effects, as you already know. While your body is making the transition from sugar-loaded to sugar-free, it will be an adjustment. A HUGE help is checking in here, daily. I didn't do it for awhile and gained back some weight and felt like crap. This forum is an enormous aid in staying with the program. I can't stress that enough. Everyone here is in the same boat ... you are never alone at ADBB! So take advantage of that. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE ! So don't be a stranger and come here if you are having a problem ... there's always someone willing to listen and help.

| thanks for the help nancymo, I actually read the atkins book a long time ago and I'm familiar with insulin resistance, gary taubes work, etc. I fit every single characteristic of insulin resistance and sugar addiction with many of the co-morbidities (very low ldl, high triglycerides, apnea, etc) unfortunately for me "knowing" has not translated to "doing" instead i'll sit there double fisting double-chocolate milkshakes thinking about how im poisoning myself it's so bizarre because if I had cancer, I would go through chemo, radiation, surgery, whatever other hellish medicine was available to me, but this is like having a curable cancer, a VERY simple cure. all i have to do to cure my disease, is to eat different stuff.. so why don't I? addictions are stubborn things. |

| Meat, I'm so glad you read it. I read it myself and I WROTE it (maybe it was the healthier - thinner Nancy Mo writing it to encourage the current Nancy Mo!). Anyway, believe me the sugar cravings will pass, then your hunger will diminish too. Hey, you need to post your stats and throw yourself into this community, it really helps that we can watch each other's back for support or a kick in the seat!!! Keep track of your measurements too, not just your weight, because sometimes the inches come off without the weight. I'd love to be a size 10 even if my weight remains the same! |
