Talking Hello!

Checking out this forum and it looks great! I've been on two different forums, but looking for a change. My name is Dawn, I'm 50 and from the Midwest.

I've been following Atkins since February 2009; started at 250 and was down to 231, but it's creeping up again. I would say I'm on extended induction! I really enjoy eating this way and feel happier and healthier than I have in a long time. Married and empty nester, my husband and I are both enjoying the AWE. When the kids come home from college for a visit - they know they have to bring their own carbs!

Just looking for a place to chat, share, support, learn, etc.

Looking forward to new friendships.

Welcome to the Atkins Board Dawn.

I don't know about the sites you've been on before but we strickly follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) here. If you don't already have a copy it would be a helpful for you to get one to refer to (www.amazon.com or www.half.com have inexpensive copies). Since you don't have much further to go to your goal you should consider moving to OWL and moving slowly up the rungs soon. You need to give yourself and your palate enough time to find the foods that you can eat without problem and those foods that may cause problems for you. Also many people, including myself, have found moving to OWL starts the process of loosing weight again.

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin without iron.

Check all around the board for everything there is to, there is a challenge section with both exercise and non exercise challenges, Rate My Menu for help with your food, journaling – something for everyone.

Read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number - look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against the acceptable food list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.
