Hi there. My name is Jennifer and I am new to Atkins. I am 29 years old, 5'2" and my starting weight is 166. I am on day 5 of my induction and hope to see some results soon.

Any helpful hints or words of encouragement would be great. I've never been any good at diets or exercise plans and my metabolism suddenly dropped this year, resulting in a 15 pound weight gain when I was already overweight, so this is going to be a long journey for me to return to the 105 pounds that I weighed before I had my son 8 years ago.

It is time to take control and finally do this, so I am ready to make it happen and stop making excuses.

Hello Jennifer... you've come to the right place. These boards are full of knowledge and motivation. Make sure you've read the book, get in your exercise--it's key, drink up that water, join a few challenges--they'll keep ya motivated, have fun, and you'll be well on your way to goal!

Make sure you stop by the Before and After Forum, if ever you get the urge to fall off... that'll help keep you focused on why you came.

Welcome to the Atkins Board.

I hope you’ve read the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR), it’s the book we follow on this bulletin board. If you haven’t until you can get a copy you’ll find a condensed version at the top of the induction -

Also it's best to weigh and take your measurements when you started so you'll know when you are loosing inches. How are you doing so far? Any questions?

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin. Check all around the board for everything there is to, there is a challenge section with both exercise and non exercise challenges, Rate My Menu for help with your food, journaling – there is something for everyone

Make a copy of this list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

Welcome! and congratulations on making this decision in your life. It's not always easy to make a change, but you'll find this will be well worth it. This is a great place for encouragement and information. I wish you luck, and I keep us informed on your progress.
