Default Back again.

Well, I got a new job and moved my family and I quit eating right for 4 months. I had started this WOL 1-1-09. I lost 30 pounds in 5 months. I think I ate too much and too many carbs. So I have been slacking for 4 months. I gained 17 pounds back! Now I am motivated to start again. So, here I go. I plan on keeping quantity and carbs to a minimum. I hope I can drop faster this time. I will keep my water intake higher too. It is hard since I work in the OR and have to go several hours without leaving. But, we all have something hard to overcome. I want to do a food journal too. I will start one when I figure out how. I have been feeling depressed, low on energy, and frustrated that I keep gaining weight again. I see people stop a diet and gain more then they had to begin with and I don't want to be that person. I started looking at Lap band surgery. I was really getting into it. I researched costs, doctors, and called my insurance to see if they would cover it. I even found a forum of people that have had it done. Then yesterday I got on this board again. Someone said they had considered weight loss surgery. This person said "YOU CAN BUY A WHOLE LOT OF STEAKS FOR $5,000 OR $10,000." I think they were thinking about weight loss surgery too. Any ways, money speaks to me. So, when I read that, I said "yeah, thats right." "I can get a lot of steaks for the cost of that surgery. And I will feel better faster, and I won't have to 'qualify' for insurance to cover it." So, here I am again. Those people on the Lap Band forum have to eat a liquid diet for a month before the surgery to shrink their liver so they surgeon can reach their stomach. Then they are on liquid, then puree, then soft solid, then solid foods. It can take them 2-3 months to reach solid foods again. Then they need periodic adjustments on the ring, which costs each time unless they get a package deal. Then they can only eat about HALF of a small yogart container full of food. Of course they will loose weight. They are volunteering for surgically induced starvation. My brother went through gastric bypass surgery. It's requirements are similar. But, if they are not carefull they can stretch the stomach, the band can slip, or they can get too many calories through liquids and still gain weight. EVEN AFTER THE SURGERIES. My brother lost 120 pounds and put 30 back on. He motivates me too. He had diabetes, high blood preasure, low thyroid, sleep apnea and some other weight related disorders. I am getting close to the age that he was when he was diagnosed with all of that. I am close to his weight already. I need this change. There are people on this forum who loose weight as fast or faster then these surgery people. They recommend 2 pounds a week weight loss. I know I can do at least that, and it won't cost me nearly as much. So, I am starting again.

Nice to see you back again
You know it works, if you work it.
I love steaks so Atkins really agrees with me. Sounds like it would be the same for you. Embrace your inner carnivore bbut don't neglect low carb nutritious veggies.

Hi and welcome back to Atkins --

Regardless of what you did before, or what people are doing now, your body is different than anyone so it’s best not to compare what happened before or what's happening with others. Look around and find what interests you and join in. Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support.

As far as water intake -- get a huge glass and fill it with ice water and sip on it all day.....it may be hard when you are in the OR but like you said, you'll find a way. Don't forget to exercise and take your vitamin -- you're on your way!!

The plan works when you follow it the way it was written -- hopefully you already have the 2002 DANDR book and have read it.

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out! Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily.
