Hello, there!

My name is Laney, and I'm new to the website. I stumbled across the site just a few hours ago, actually, and fell in love with all the encouraging words I saw. I happened to buy the Atkins shakes two days ago, along with an Atkin's Diet book.

For all of my life, I've been on the heavy side. Then, three years ago, a traumatic incident happened that fled me to food so I could gain weight and become less attractive to men. I thought this was a great idea! Until my self-esteem went way down hill and I could no longer fit in my pretty Victoria Secret panties.

Now that I'm going back to school to become a pastoral counselor and with my 21st birthday approaching soon, I thought I'd throw the white flag up and start this diet.

Glad you found the book. The diet works very well if you follow the system Dr. Atkins made. Those Shakes however spell trouble for some people. They seem to be too sweet and stall some weightloss for some (me included).

Welcome to the Atkins Board.

It's too bad you bought the shakes....save them for much later up the OWL ladder for emergencies or for treats.....too bad there isn't a disclaimer on the packaging for people to check this site before they buy them...but of course, the Atkins company is trying to make money, not make us healthy or they would change the ingredients to actual induction legal ingredients.

Great news that you have already purchased the book -- hopefully it's the 2002 DANDR - the one we follow here. Read through it and learn as much as you can - there is so much information you'll be glad you took the time.

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin.

Eat the foods on the acceptable food list

Vary your meals so you don't get tired of eating the same thing over and over -- we have too many choices for that to happen.
