NanCan is on a distinguished road
Default No longer dieting;this is a way of life.

Have long believed in Atkins, but like many I lost weight, then thought I could manage to eat "normally" and combined with a couple problems, spinal surgery to name one, the weight crept back on. I had lost 20 of the 65 I intended to lose when I got a copy of Gary Taubes Good Calories, Bad Calories, which further convinced me that low carb has to be a way of life. So my spouse, who quickly reached his goal (I'd curse him if I didn't love him so much) of -25 in two months.

I'm a scholar, and as is my bent, have been reading extensively on this subject of weight loss for over ten years, but it still took me a few years to realize that food is no longer what it was, and we have to be extremely wary of all the highly processed foods with this dangerous (in reality addictive) high-fructose corn syrup in everything. Last week I bought a turkey breast--one of those roasted in the market--when I sampled it before serving, it was so sweet that I had to throw it out, all $12 worth.. A reminder that if it doesn't have a label, you cannot be sure of it.

So back to stay. Weight is coming off and no more inclinations to cheat, which for me is a real triumph.

Started again 6/1/09 - Have lost 25/ goal -65!

Good to hear that you have found a WOE that will work for you. I love this one too because I also find that I am eating so much 'cleaner' than I did before. And that cannot be bad. And that fact that it is helping me maintain weight is a bonus.
Congratulations on your losses and welcome back to Atkins.

Welcome to the Atkins Board Nan.

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin. If you haven't already, read the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR).

Vary your meals so you don't get tired of eating the same thing over and over -- we have too many choices for that to happen.

Check the recipe sites for great meal ideas.

Congrats on your weight loss so far and welcome to ADBB!

It really IS a shame that most prepared foods from the grocery contain sugars and soy. It seems to be in everything! I started trying to eat mostly whole foods last year and even if you just have the basics (meats, veg, eggs, etc.) eating clean is not as wholesome as it used to be.

Fortunately, more and more people are gardening or using farmer's markets or CSAs for their produce and getting dairy and eggs from local farms. Whenever possible, I even get my meats/poultry from small farms. The local grocery stores seem to be getting a clue by offering some of these local and/or natural products but then they go and ruin it by using sugars in their rotisserie poultry and soy/sugars in their prepared veggies.
